LED's possibly silent?

Post by ckamc » Thu Apr 14, 2005 8:29 pm

I hadnt thought about this till the other day when I was looking at fan controllers and it struck me. 12cm LED fans CAN be silent if I undervolted them from 12 to 5~7 range.

My question is if the AVERAGE 12cm LED fan pushes 50~60CFM at about 30dBA would it be close to "quiet" when devolted?

I love my LED's I have in this old setup and LED's will compliment the next case very well in my opinion.

the 12cm cooler master fans (1200 rpm) come in both led and uv varieties, and are currently very popular as nexus alternatives. you can also pick them up for $6 or so, but make sure you check resellerratings.com whenever you find a bargain from somewhere you're unfamiliar with.

the only other led fans i'd consider are the tek-chain 120mm adjustable fan, and the evercool 120mm aluminum led model. they both cost a whole bunch more than the cooler master fans, but have some higher rpm headroom to play with. for a silent box i'd just get some cooler masters, 5-volt-mod them and leave it at that.
