3.5" bay fan controler to 2 case fans?

Post by dentaku » Tue May 24, 2005 3:42 pm

I'm pretty sure I know what I need to do to get my temperatures down to an acceptable level. It's all been discussed already in this thread:
http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=22070

My question now is:
What kinda fan controller and fans should I get to cool down my Gigabyte fanless Geforce 6800 and my case in general?

Taking the side off and placing an 80mm Zalman PIII cooler fan next to the AGP card works fine, but it's a bit louder than I'd like, PLUS it's not controllable. It's just stuck at 5volts and always spins at 1646RPM.

What I'm thinking of doing is this:
Put a 120mm fan in the side of my case blowing in (the little Zalman does a great job when it's blowing in) and another large fan in the back, right above the AGP slot, blowing out. Of course what works right now with my side off might not be affective with the side on.

I would like to get a fan controller that will let me turn up these fans when I'm taxing the video card and turn it down when I'm not taxing it.
ACTUALLY: I would love to be able to just turn one or both of them off completely when I don't need them.

I'm assuming that 1000RPM NEXUS fans are nice, but they probably are too slow for what I want.
Would I need something more like two 1200RPM 120mm fans that I can turn down to below 1000RPM when I want to quiet them down?

OR would two 1000RPM Nexus fans be OK? I suppose turning them down below 1000 would be almost as quiet as being able to turn them off completely anyway???

Coolermaster LED Silent/UV Silent 120mm fans are rated at 1200rpm 12V, and undervolt to around 600rpm from my experience.

If you buy the original yate loons before they are modded by nexus, they max out at ~1300rpm. And of course, still undervolt and are quiet like the nexus.

You really should fill out your profile so your location will show up and what kind of case do you have? If you're in the us go to the vendors and deals forum and look up the tekgem fan deals. - FG

Google is really powerful. You can type in 3.5 bay fan controller and get reviews, current prices...

You're right, I made myself a long winded signature with all my specs.
I'm tetsting it out now. I'll probably shorten it once I see how it look in an actual post.

Let's see if this works.

Well, that obviously didn't work.
I'm gonna reply to my own post and see if this works now that it's not too long.
