How do I attach fans using Sunbeam Rubber Fan Screws??

Post by grenadier » Wed Jul 27, 2005 6:15 pm

I bought a four pack of these rubber screws for $4 at jab-tech here, but cannot for the life of me figure out what the hell to do with them. They don't fit through the screw holes in the case for fan mounting nor can I wedge either side of them into any of the fans I have. Anyone have any ideas??

Mar, you're not being very helpful today - this is the second such post I came across :-)

grenadier, you need open corner fans for these to work. Note that the "rubber screws" are not symmetrical. Crude ascii art:

<EEE==||=EE>

Note the narrow part "=" : one side is thicker than the other. The thick side is for the fan, the thinner side is for the case. Insert it into the fan first, position the fan against the case, then pull it through the case.

I'll try to post a picture.

Edit: Thanks, winguy. Saved me the trouble.

Not the same "screw", but you should be able to get an idea from this pic (click on it to enlarge):

If there's a post I don't really know how to answer, I figure, what the hey, why not throw in some comic relief? Even if it's not really all that funny.

How did you pull it through the fan? Mine just refuses to go through.

if there ripping apart, then it sounds like a shitty product. ive got some blue soft fan mounts that look exactly like yours, and i can tug on them as hard as i possibly can all day without them ripping in any way.

Where did you purchase yours from? Can you send me a link? I can easily rip mine.

They're quite expensive for something like that. How significanat will the noise reduction be?

you get what you pay for. if you want cheep, then look at what you have now and dont complain. if you want quality, your gunna pay for it.

and i would hardly call 75cents a pop expensive. if you buy 5 packs its only 50cents a pop.

do you really need a cost/benefit analisys on somthing that costs 3 bucks?

i'm just saying that it might not be worth purchasing them unless i buy other things from the same site. It's $5 shipping for 5 packs of the fan mounts which was the same price I paid to have my case shipped.

Yes, they're the same EAR ones that we've been using here at SPCR for years now.
