80-120 fan adapters

Post by gasganet » Fri Oct 14, 2005 2:03 am

It seems to me most people don’t even consider fan adapters and prefer to enlarge the 80mm case holes to use 120mm fans.

I changed my Noiseblocker S3 80mm back exhaust fan for an 120mm NB SX1 using a 80-120 fan adapter I am pretty happy with the results.

The fan is outside the case (looks cool!) and it’s very silent since most of the time it runs at 8V. Do you think it would be better to make a proper 120mm hole in the case or it is not worth the trouble?...
Thanks.

I have similar case and have been using 80->120 mm fan adapter for quite sometime. :)

With Lian Li PC7, trying to cut a 120 mm hole at the back is too risky in my opinion as you'll have to cut into part of the case structure to have a 'clean' hole - otherwise you'll have some part of fan being blocked. You'll also have to 'sand' the frame of 120 mm fan a bit if you want to put the fan inside the case. All-in-all, not worth the trouble.

If only there's a 90->120 fan adapter :wink: .
