Hardware Fan Control.

Post by Freyr » Mon Mar 13, 2006 3:43 am

Does anybody know of a good harware based, OS independent box that I can plug fans into that will change their speed. I've seen a few but they don't have enough connecter or they don't change fan speed automatic. If there is a motherboard that can do this that would work too as I still haven't picked one out, so many choices.

Info on my new box i'm going to build.

I'm going to have around seven fans in my computer. CPU, VGA, Motherboard(unless passive), and two to four case fans.

Scythe SCNJ-1000 /w Nexus 120
Arctic Cooling NV Silencer Rev.3
Case fans are nexus too(1 back,1-2 front).
CPU will be a AMD Athlon x2 3800+.

I wish the ATX standard would add smart fans into it. Just plug all the fans into the motherboard and depending on the temp of the cpu, vga, and chipsets change the speed of the fans in a OS independent way and call it a day, No need to use 1 in 50 billion programs to do it at the OS level,

Also does anybody know if the Arctic Cooling NV Silencer Rev.3 works with the new 7900GT cards?

Thanks to any posters and MikeC for the cool site.

Welcome to SPCR!

I believe theT-Balancer will suit your needs. The only card in the Geforce 7-series that Arctic Cooling has a compatible NV Silencer for is the 7800 cards.

On another forum someone modified the ACS 5 Rev.3 to fit the 7900GT. Read this thread and see post #9:

The Zalman fanbus for $30 USD is a nice manual controller.
It has (4) rheostat knobs, and 2 toggle switches (5V/12V).

That T-balancer XL and SL4 is interesting.
I couldn't find a place actually selling it yet.

Haven't found anyone selling the SL4 card version yet.

FYI you can order the T-Balancer directly from mCubed - they ship world wide and usually have much better prices (even w/ shipping) than the local distributers.

mCubed Store

It's pricey, but if you like tinkering w/ your system and seeing lots of information, I highly recommend the T-Balancer w/ the analog extension kit.
