Best 92mm Fan for Thermalright XP-90

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for the best performer in the 92mm size of fans for use on a Thermalright XP-90.

I read the review done here, but I was a little worried about the temps that all but the panaflo 92mm fan registered. I will be putting this in an HTPC case, the OrigenAE X11 V2 case, and I want to make sure nothing is overheating. But of course, Im also struggling with the noise factor. Are there any new alternatives since that review that would cool ina similar fashion to the 92mm panaflow while keeping the noise to a minimum?

I'd say either the Nexus or the Scythe DF (1600RPM). You could also check the Recommended Fans section.

yeah I did take a look at it, but since its about 2 years old, i thought id see if there were any new developments in the fan area. Ill check out the Nexus and Scythe DF, thanks.

I use a AcoustiFan Dustproof 92mm Fan with my XP90, partly because it comes in a 3 pin fitting and includes as standard a 3-Speed Fan Cable. This allows you to select between 5V, 7.5V and 12V operation without needing a separate fan controller.

Specs according to Acousti are as follows:
Full speed 12V DC = 28cfm / 22dBA / 1600rpm
Medium speed 7.5V DC = 17.4cfm / <10dBA / 950rpm
Low speed 5V DC = 10.1cfm / <10dBA / 550rpm

Not a cheap fan, it cost around £16 in the UK but well-worth the money in my experience.

Let me be the bearer of bad news. No, there is no fan that will cool like a Pana92M (2450RPM) while being quiet like (for instance) a Vantec 92 1500RPM. A common tradeoff in SPCR-related things is that fans get quieter very rapidly as the RPM goes down, but the temperature does rise. The temperature just doesn't rise nearly as fast as the noise goes down, fortunately.

Your job, as the equipment owner, is to select the tradeoff between noise and temperature that keeps you happy. Nobody else can do this for you.

I'm a retired electrical engineer with considerable experience using mil-spec ceramic-packaged ICs that ran hot. If the package temperature did not go over 90C, the IC would last for the life of the equipment. Today, a desktop CPU will run forever if its temperature does not exceed 85C. When was the last time you heard of a CPU wearing out? It doesn't happen; CPUs instead are thrown away when they become obsolescent.

Like Felger said, overheating should be the least of your worries given you are using a XP90 and Pana92... assuming your have decent airflow setup in that HTPC case you are using.

I had a XP90 with the same Pana92 and another with the Nexus. I spun BOTH of them down around 1000 RPM. Sacrificing slightly higher CPU thermals for less fan noise. The main problem is that the motor chatter becomes more apparently by spinning the higher RPM Pana down so low (atleast for my Pana samples).
