Silverstone 120mm 21dB fans?

Post by sgtspiff » Tue Aug 29, 2006 5:16 am

Thinking of buying a Silverstone temjin case.

Are the two 120mm Silverstone fans that comes with the case any good?

They say that they're 21dB, but that must be in perfect testing conditions?

Will there be a great difference if I bought Nexus or Scythe 8,7dBA fans instead?

Look at the SPCR review of the Silverstone TJ-06. They test the fans in it.

Or search the forums about Everflow fans. That is the actual manufacturer of the Silverstone fans.

Hello,

IIANM, these are also the same as the GlacialTech fan -- all three are made by EverCool? [Edit: Everflow it is!]

No, not Evercool, but Everflow. Important distinction.
See the bottom of this page.

Edit: stupid typo.

It all depends on your need. I have the tj08 and the MSI K8NGM2-FID. I found the intake fan very noisy. Replacing the intake fan with a Nexus greatly improve the noise level, but the northbridge sometimes shot all the way to 70C (because the intake blows straight to the north bridge.) So for me, the Nexus is much quieter but pumps much LESS air than the stock fan.

What I did was removing the front-grill/filter. I'd get some dust but the Nexus then would be able to keep the NB between 50C and 60C.

I'm still looking for a real solution with that case.

It's the TJ08 I'm looking at.
So going down to the Scythe 8,7dBA would be a bad idea as the northbridge would get even hoter then with nexus fans.

Have to check the Everflow fans out.

Did you have any other problems with the case (airflow and cooling)?

It looks like those fans are a cousin to the white FM121's. If that's the case, then they're extremely quiet. I can't hear them with my ear a foot away.
