Coolink SWiF Fans??

Post by xenithon » Mon Mar 05, 2007 6:38 am

Hi all. I need to get some fans for my new system. I need to order from overseas and someone will bring them for me, so price is an important factor. I had my eyes on the Nexus fans as they seem to be the reference around here (I need 2x120mm and 1x92mm fan). However I came across the Coolink SWiF fans, which have good ratings and some decent reviews (though not at the stringency level of SPCR reviews :D )...and importantly, they are FAR cheaper (less than half price of the Nexus fans).

Has anyone had experience with them? Are they as quiet as they claim to be (or at least quiet enough for an SPCR-approved system)? The ones I am looking at in particular are:
- Coolink SWiF Fan 1200. 27CFM, 11dB, 800RPM rated.
- Coolink SWiF Fan 920. 22.4CFM, 11dB, 1000RPM
- Coolink SWiF Fan 921. 18-32CFM, 7-18dB, 800-1500RPM.

Also, as a front fan in the Antec P150, would the 920 suffice or do you think the 921 would be a better option?

Thanks and Cheers,
X

PS. the only fans under consideration ATM are the Nexus and Coolink fans, as those are what I can have organized, so please try and limit comments/comparisons to those two :)

BUMP...has anyone used these? I read some notes on the previous models from Coolink on SPCR reviews, but not these new SWiF (Silent Whisper) series fans.

I only have one 80 mm SWiF fan, and after trying it out in several applications, I ended up putting it back in its box... it's easily the worst fan I've ever had, even counting 50 mm fans I had lying around my K6 box.

I've seen reviews praising some fans from Coolink/Noiseblocker, so I might just have been a bit out of luck.

For the 120 mm fan, you can find tests of the SWiF 1201: here, here, and here. The latter two are in german, but with some babelfish you can get a handle of it.

The 1201 should be similar to the 1200, hope this helps you a bit.

You're better off with Nexus I think... NoiseBlocker Black Silent series is quiet fan and cheap. Nexus 120mm is 18 to 22€'s, BlackSilent X1 or X2 are (X1 = 1000 RPM's minute and 33,5 CFM's with 16 d/BA and X2 = 1200 to 1300 RPM's with 54 CFM's with 21 d/BA ((X2 is easier to undervolt and reliably starts @ 5v unlike X1 ))) 10,90€'s and they are quiet fans (although not as quiet as manufacturer says, what surprise). Smaller Black Silents 92mm and 80mm ( both sizes have 2 speeds like 120mm's ) are around 8,90 to 9,90€. All BlackSilent fans have 3 year warranty.

Yeah, I bit the bullet and ordered the Nexus fans. Those Coolink fans were appealing due to their much lower price: not only are they roughly half the price of the Nexus fans, but the site I was going to order them from (Nintek) has 50% off too, so they'd end up around 1/4 of the price of the Nexus!
