Gigabyte motherboard fan control?

Post by alluringreality » Mon Jun 11, 2007 6:31 pm

I have a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 motherboard. How can I control the fan speeds with this board? The impression I got looking at the manual is that both the CPU and system fans could be controlled by the motherboard.

- Using speedfan the RPMs make no sense at all and setting the speeds 0 has no effect.

- Using Easy Tune 5 does allow me to change the CPU fan, but not the system fan.

The two 4-pin fan headers can be controlled with Speedfan. But you need to go into the Advanced menu and change the PWM modes on one of the chips to "Software controlled."

I got a P35-DS4 so i don't know if this applies although i went into advanced and configured the PWM on the IT8712F to software controlled with no results, i still get rpms on only one and its reading 675000! Guess i'll have to wait for support for P35 :/

Alluringreality did you get it to work?

I am looking at the same Giga board and was hopeful this would work with speedfan.

It worked for me - both the CPU fan header and SYS fan header can control 3-pin fans; I didn't check the 3-pin PWR header. I'm using the DS3P, but I don't think it differs from the DS3 in this respect.

Speedfan still reports wrong speeds (ie. 675000) though.

Yes I got it to work by the first reply with config->advanced->software-controlled. It still took another question to the board before I got the automatic fan speed working right.
