Hmm, what's the advantage of a thin fan again, except the ability to squeeze into tight spots?

Oh, many blades. It probably has pretty good ability to push some decent CFM's.

Exactly that. Nothing else needed. It's especially useful when mounting on case side panels to blow over motherboard heatsinks, if you have narrow case. I was thinking of building my own laptop cooler, but all fans were to 'fat. This could prove quite handy 8)

I'm just asking as I remember some discussion about the frame's role in directing the airflow. This was with the frameless fans that you see on some brand of CPU coolers.

You are right there. Come to think of it, I never really explore the role that frame plays in fan's airflow. Hopefully somebody else can explain how wideness of the fan influences airflow.

There are advantages and dis-advantages to these thin fans. They obviously will have a lower CFM than a similar thick-frame fan at the same RPM.

But......when squeezing a fan into a tight place, not only might a thin fan fit the space, but it might have an airflow advantage over a thick fan because of a better airflow on the intake side.

When you guys start building non-standard/smaller setups, the advantages of these thinner fans become apparent. I have many boxes of non-standard fans, just waiting for the right project.
