Yate Loon and Nexus, different blade design?
Is it just me or do these two fans look like they have different fan designs?

I have a Nexus 120 from ~5 years ago... and several from 3, 2, 1 year and more recently. They all have the exact same blade design -- which looks identical to the blade design of all the Yate Loon 120s I have. And I have lots of those too, tho not spread over as long a time. Those pics linked by the OP look like identical blade designs to me.
Now the Nexus 80 fans are a whole different story. Those have rounded edges.

Yes, they're the same. You needn't even venture outside of SPCR to find pictures from the same angle:

On a side note, my careful handling has resulted in one of my 2 Yate Loon D12SL-12s developing a bad chatter/ticking. Yes, that was sarcasm. Both were good from the beginning, but I tinker with things until they break. It's an affliction. The YL D80SL-12 I picked up had a chatter from the start.

I'd say a significantly lower speed (1200RPM down to 1000RPM), which makes it a "special". And I've an orange Yate Loon D12SL (though I tell people it's a Nexus for street cred).jaganath wrote:How do you think Nexus make their money?floepie wrote:If they are the same fans, why the price disparity?
yate loon is the OEM, nexus 120mm just has slightly lower top speed and a fancy paint job.
The price disparity is very variable, I suspect some dealers are cashing in on our foibles.

Take a look at this Yate Loon.....it has a curve to the leading edge of the blades. I have one like this, and the blades are curved compared to the normal YL. I also have some 2-wire 120mm Yate Loons (older). Their black blades look like this thing ...curved. Who knows how many different designs YL has produced?

^look at that Yate Loon.
^look at that orange Nexus.
^look at that B/W Nexus.
the nexus has a smooth, rounded blade design.
the yate loon has a much more swept back and sharp design.
look at the trailing end of each blade for the difference.
but also, bluefront showed a picture of a different fan, but when you google the model number of the fan bluefront linked, you see both nexus and yate loon, however when you look carefully, the yate loon the OP posted is for the same model, but again, look at the trailing edge of the fan.
i'm not swear, i crazy!

Hello,
The Yate Loons are more swept forward, and yes the trailing edge of the Nexus is more curved.
Here's a comparison that I drew an outline (in DataCAD 12) of the Nexus blade (on the left, in yellow), and then I copied this to the Yate Loon and rotated it so the base of the blade is aligned -- pretty easy to see the difference, I think!
