RPM of KAZE-JYU at 5v

Post by eit412 » Wed Apr 23, 2008 12:16 pm

What is the RPM of a 100mm scythe kaze-jyu (High speed) at 5v? I would like to use one as an intake for my NSK3480 so my pasive 8600gts will stay cooler.

Probably zero. I doubt it would start at that voltage.

7v maybe, but the fan is quiet enough at 12v that you shouldn't need to undervolt it too far, if at all.

The 1500rpm medium speed will start at 5v (from the review of the scythe mine cpu cooler), so I would think the 2000rpm high speed would as well, I am just curious as to how fast the 2000rpm fan would run at 5v as i do not have a fan controler and a simple 5v 12v toggle would be fairly easy if I wanted low noise or higher airflow.

My misunderstanding, for some reason I thought you were talking about the 1000rpm version. Must have confused 1000rpm with 100mm.

The 2000rpm version will definitely start at 5V and will probably run the same as a 1500rpm version at 9V (around 1000rpm +/- 100rpm) which is pretty quiet, but on those higher speed Kazy-Jyus, the growl can be a problem when the whoosh goes away.

Regardless, at 5v it will direct enough air towards your GPU to keep it a little cooler.

Thanks for the heads up about the growl of the higher speed version. I may get the medium speed with a fan controler.

I bought the high speed one, cuz it was like half price of the others at the egg, it's in the intake of my solo. W/ the fan controller it's pretty quiet about 1000rpms but will stall out under that. I'd say 5v is going to be 1000rpm.
