i couldnt care less what intel specs are im using an amd opteron 165 at the moment and i assume u know the p180 has an exhaust fan right behind and right above the cpu and my mother board is the asus a8n32sli deluxe which has nice big heatsinks etc on it
and iv been running it for over a year at 2.9ghz watercooled with case fans set to their lowest and the opteron chews up alot more power than current cpu's as im eventually going to get a c2d or maybe a quad but something with less power output and more processing power eventually and i want to ditch the watercooling as its quite a large setup and the machine is going to ge4t clocked back and undervolted as its a bit overkill for a media center !

That made me laugh aloud. Not because it's perfectly correct, but just funny.weebroonie wrote:i couldnt care less what intel specs are im using an amd opteron 165 at the moment
Intel's spec for ATX is usually accepted by AMD. AMD-compatible boards will also need cooling.
I'm told that the Orochi would fit such a large case. I'm not certain however.
The Opteron 165 can be cooled passively with a Thermalright 120-Extreme tower in that setup. I'd assume the Orochi should do slightly better for temperature.
I also lost watercooling in favour of passive fan cooling. I recommend it very much. About the same noise level, no maintenance on passive components, fans are cheap and easy, no leaks destroying components.

yeh i know its a beast of a thing i sure wouldnt be relying on just the socket it would be getting some tie wire upto the chassis or something to take some of the strain off of it
still not sure whether the price over a ninja is justified yet to see it reviwed against a ninja i think i will wait a few weeks and see how people on here get on with it as im getting a bit fed up of the big ass watercooling setup i have which was mainly to overclock my machine silly and keep it quiet and its just a waste of power as its only really used as a media center now ..

Right now i have a thermalright Ultra 120 extreme. Before I had a Scythe Ninja! and i reckon the ninja was better! (was using no fan on the ninja).weebroonie wrote:cool whats your current cooler and remember and let us know what you think of it and compare it to your previous cooler
cheers!
I dont know how good my comparison will be because a lot of people claim to get 25-30 degrees on their Q6600' chips on idle (overclocked).
My chip (stock) sits at 29-35 on idle on a cold day, so my Q6600 G0's probably crap. But i'll do a load and idle test for the people of SPCR anyway.
