70mm options.

Post by wolfticket » Sun May 25, 2008 7:07 pm

Hi.
Sorry to just barge in asking questions... er... but...

I'm after a 70mm fan (or two) to use as intakes for a scratch build I'm working on. I had a quick hunt through the forum, and there wasn't much info on 70mm fans (understandably, as they are almost the same size as the much more popular 80mm). However, I, of course, happen have a very unusual hole :?

...Anyway, cutting to the chase, here is what a quick google turned up:

Startech TX3 Replacement (15 and 25mm)

Evercool (15 and 25mm)

Aerocool (?)

Akaska (15mm)

Coolermaster (15mm)

AcoustiFan: DustPROOF (25mm)

Or (the wild card)
Nexus PHT 3600 Skive Tech Silent Pentium 4 Heat Sink with, what would appear to be, a 70mmx25mm Nexus Fan mounted on top  (I make PCs, so the heatsink might come in handy)

15mm would be preferable, but not vital. The same applies to cheap (£15?!). Also, reasonably easy UK availability would be nice (yes, I'm posting this at 4am  )

Suggestions or opinions, based on experience or a general knowledge of all things "fan" would be greatly appreciated :D

70mm really is oddball. Have you considered either redrilling the fan holes? Ducting an 80mm fan to fit that hole would also probably be easier (and maybe even quieter).

It's actually more of a clearance issue, so 80mm really is a no go. Also, an 80mm fan ducted or mounted at an angle is impossible due to depth. From what I can tell, 60mm is just as oddball and 40mm is unnecessarily small.

Seriously, any ideas would be really handy, even if it's just a brand to go with.

More information on the hole you're trying to vent would be helpful. Pictures would be even better. If this is an exhaust or intake fan inside your case, perhaps you could mount an 80mm fan outside of the case. That'll give you some more clearance.

I just bought 2 Sharkoon System Fan Series 70x70x15mm 2000rpm 21db(A)

They seem ok, if not spectacular, should be pretty quiet once they are undervolted.

BTW:

As you can see, there aint much room for external mounting and ducting in my drawer :D.
The rear fan and the front left have to be 70mm or less. Due to internal and external clearance issues.
