Greetings:
I'm progressing along with my high power "quiet as possible" build. I have the SS-400 which I swapped the fan for a M1A - good to go there. I have 3 case fans, L1A and M1A on front, M1A on rear. All controlled by Intel D865MB. Good so far, all of above seems very quiet - that is , I can't hear any of them over the CPU fan
I have a P4 3.0GhZ 800FSB CPU with Intel's "retail boxed set" stock CPU cooler/fan. It is relatively LOUD. Pretty high pitch. I'm new at P4's and was chicken to unplug the CPU fan and see how quiet everything else was, but it is clear the CPU fan is my loud component for now.
What are my alternatives? This PC is going to be cranking the CPU doing video MPEG encoding so it'll probably need plenty of cooling. What's the best option for quiet and cool. I'm happy to fabricate or mod, whatever is best.
Thanks very much for the time to help,
Scott
P43.0 stock CPU fan replmt, it's loudest thing I have.Help?

You may want to check the Recommended Heatsinks, but I would recommend the Thermalright SLK-800U or 900U.

I have a Zalman CNPS-7000Cu on my P4C-3.0Ghz. It's a pretty good heatsink in cooling capacity and noise-wise, although you may not be able to swap fans in it. At it's highest speed, the fan is the noisiest thing in my system, but it comes with a Zalman Fanmate. But the noise isn't as bad as the retail HSF of my old P3-1.13ghz.
