Fan request: 92mm PWM fan that runs at 1000rpm MIN
I am desperately looking for a quiet 92mm PWM case fan that runs no slower than 1000rpm at its minimum speed.
I need two of them. One for modding a Zalman CPNS9500, and the other as a rear case fan.
The reason why they have to run no slower than 1000rpm through PWM, is because I am trying to make an HP ProLiant ML115 server quieter by using them. The machine automatically shuts down if either the CPU or case fan go any slower, and there does not seem to be any way of changing the ranges for the shutdown event.
Is there a perfect fan for me?
Thanks

I was looking at this recently, unfortunately it still only ranges from 900-2000.
Why not just use some 1,000RPM fans @ 12v? or is PWM a must on the server?
Sycthe has some really decent fans that fit that bill.

Hi, if I remember correctly the minimum speed of the Zalman fan is more 1000rpm, about 1200-1300 as I recall. Is this too fast for you, as changing Zalman fan isn't trivial. I have a trick to add a fanmate to the loop that allows you to adjust the range of the PWM fan, effectively changing 1300-2600rpm fan in to a 1000-2000rpm one. This can probably be made to work witrh most PWM fans, can only reduce speed though.
The fan on Xigmatech S963 is std 92mm PWM and I think maybe more 1000rpm minimum. Will check for you when I get home.
Hope this helps, Seb

I am resuming my quest to make this noisy server quieter.
@aztec
I cannot physically fit a non-PWM fan onto the motherboard header. If I was to cut of one of the notches on the fan socket, which end do I cut?
@SebRad
This Zalman cooler does not actually have a PWM fan. I suppose I could just cut one of the notches from the socket (which one?) and try that. Did you know the details of the Xigmatech S963?
Would it really be okay to just install non-PWN fans to replace the PWM CPU HSF and case fans? If they work without the server shutting down automatically, the server would still not be able to increase the fan speed when extra cooling is needed. I guess it worth a try.

I guess "close one" is not enough :

900-2000RPM

Thanks, but I don't think it will work, as the server will shut down at anything less than 10000rpm.
I have just tried connecting a Zalman CPNS9700-NT (PWM) and it works fine, so it looks like the CPU HSF has been solved - as long as it physically fits in. Even though this is a AMD Opteron server, the CPU cooler looks like it has LGA775 mount holes, so hopefully it is not some propriety mount.
Now I just need a quiet 92mm case fan that spins over 1000rpm minimum. I would prefer a PWM, but I suppose I could try a 3-pin fan and see if that works okay over the hot summer weather.

Well, there is still a option of using a 8cm fan if possible :
http://www.nexustek.nl/NXS-80mm-pwm-fan-ultra-quiet.htm
This one has 1000RPM minimum.

Noctua
The NF-B9's highly-optimised blade design achieves an exceptional level of airflow and static pressure that most other fans can only reach at much higher speeds. Bevelled blade tips, Vortex-Control Notches as well as Noctua's SCD drive system and premium-grade SSO-Bearing ensure outstanding quietness and long-term stability.
Size 92x92x25 mm
Bearing SSO-Bearing
Blade Geometry NF-B9 Blade Design with BBT & VCN
Rotational Speed (+/- 10%) 1600 RPM
Rotational Speed with L.N.A. (+/- 10%) 1300 RPM
Rotational Speed with U.L.N.A. (+/- 10%) 1000 RPM
============
You can convert it into a PWM using Nanoxia's PWMX controller.

The Noctua is to my knowledge the strongest 92mm "quiet" fan out there in terms of CFM.

Oh and there is this (but i'm unsure about noise) :
http://www.aquatuning.co.uk/product_inf ... 5mm--.html
According to shop where i usually buy the RPM range of this fan is 1500-2500.

I recently read a Bit-tech review of fans and I recollect the Revoltec models they tested as being good fans. Unfortunately they are not available in the US.faugusztin wrote:Oh and there is this (but i'm unsure about noise) :
