Another SPCR 120mm roundup?

Post by eddieck » Tue Mar 30, 2010 8:11 pm

A few fans I'd love to see:

Noctua's newer revision S12B fans, and maybe the P12 fans in free air
Akasa Apache
Arctic F12 (9 blade design, not frameless)

I'd be happy to donate an F12 and possibly the other two fans. Thoughts?

I'd also like to see their thoughts on some of the other "quiet" fans out there.

Thermaltake ISGC: http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.a ... 64&ID=1863 Some people say they're silent, others don't. SPCR could clear things up.

Gelid Wing 12: http://www.gelidsolutions.com/products/ ... id=2&id=21 Supposedly a "quiet" gaming fan. Certainly looks good, but how can we know for sure without SPCR?

NoiseBlocker M12: http://www.noiseblocker.de/de/produkt_l ... f12_s2.php I use one of these in my computer, and I can't hear it over the rest of the fans. This is one I would recommend to SPCR for review.

Scythe Gentle Typhoon: http://www.scythe-eu.com/en/products/fa ... 20-mm.html Another fan I have in my PC. Aside from a faint high-pitched bearing noise at close range, it is the quietest fan I've ever (not) heard.

It's been about two years since the last fan round-up, which was made entirely from Scythe fans. Any other fan reviews have been mixed in with coolers and power supplies.

SPCR, people are still using separate fans on their cases. We all need to know about the current quiet fans that are out there.

There are many new models... and we're just setting up a brand new fan testing rig to test up the many dozens of fans in our collection now.

Well, as far as the Thermaltake one goes - there's a saying around here "if they could make a flash drive noisy they would."

The new fan testing rig is pretty much ready to go. Expect a few roundups in the coming weeks. :D

Excellent! Any news on which fans will be tested? I've posted my recommendations in the other thread (Arctic F12/F12 Pro, Noctua NF-S12B, Akasa Apache, Gentle Typhoon) but wasn't sure if you intended to review them and had samples of them or if I should order a couple of them for Mike.
