axial or radial?

Post by charonme » Sat Apr 10, 2010 11:09 am

I'd like to positive-pressurize my 1u case (something like this) and I'm deciding between axial and radial fans. I know radial fans are noisier but are supposed to push more air in high-constrictive environments (like a 1u case). I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of silence but when I tried the BFB1012VH (4pin pwm) it was too noisy even at the lowest speeds... But would 12cm axials (horizontally mounted, intake from bottom of case) actually move more air thru that cramped case at the same noise level? Any suggestions plz?

Currently I'm used to very little noise - my fans run quieter than my fridge and on quiet nights I hear the lcd hum more than the wd green in a silencer box.

120mm seems to be the optimal size for PC case fans. I would stick to that size and format.

If it is a restrictive high impedance environment, use fans designed for that.
