Controller for Antec 300 + 4 fans

Post by tntnt » Sat May 15, 2010 7:32 am

Hi!

I'm looking for a controller to monitor and adjust my 4 fans:

2 Nioseblocker XL1 120
1 Antec TriCool 120
1 Antec TriCool 140

I want a sober and simple design, with few (or none) buttons.
I've checked the NZXT Sentry 2:

http : // www . overclockersclub . com / vimages/nzxt_sentry2/fan_controller_012.jpg

It has all that i want. The PWM control is not important, I let the MB deal with it. I love the touch screen and no buttons.
The only problem is that it doesn't show the RPMs, only the %. And below 40%, the next option is "turn off". Is this a problem?

Is there any other controller (for one slot) that you recommend?

Thanks!

You cant control tricools because they already have a fanspeed controller.

I wrote about this fan controller in another thread, my feeling is that it's great, perfectible but does the job. As far i know most fan controller can't control the fan speed below 40% so they shut down the fan but maybe guys with more experience will say otherwise.

There is a test here you can read which helped me a lot to pick this controler. You can disable the beeping sound it does (the test don't mention it) when you press a button and also shut off the screen completly which is cool. For the price (30€ for me) it was a good buy.

Aren't the tricools' control just a variable resistor? So that you could leave them on high speed, and do voltage control separately?

In any case, I use a Scythe Kaze Master, am quite happy with it:

Note that this is only for voltage-controlled fans, and not for PWM.

It is (so you can run tricools on high with a 3pin to molex cable on a controller so the internal resistor wont work). But some controllers need a RPM signal (like Scyte's Kaze whatever controller).

According to Antec's site, the tricools do RPM reporting:

To clarify, it seems that retail TriCools fans bought separately have a 3 pin fan connector in addition to the 4 pin molex connector.

TriCools that come as stock with Antec cases don't have a 3 pin fan connector, only a 4 pin molex connector for power.

This is what I did with a TriCool that came with a P182. Molex to 3pin to Zalman fanmate. I actually had 2 TriCools connected to the fanmate, worked great!
