Suggestions for 120mm+ horizontal for accelero s1

Hey everyone,
I've been browsing the market for a affordable 120mm that I could cable tie to my accelero s1 (is that how everyone attaches their fan?)
I've heard of problems mounting fans horizontally (like the nexus and slipstreams?), so I wanted to make sure before I make a mistake!
There seems to be a ton of new fans out on the market especially with all the new blade designs.
Given the size of accelero s1, should I go for a 120mm or maybe even a 140mm?

Currently I have a Scythe S-Flex on my TRUE, would a scythe slipstream or another alternate (cheaper) fan be better? I could buy a slipstream for my TRUE and move the S-Flex to my accelero.

Thanks! :D

I have 1 120mm at 700 rpm on Accelero S1 rev2 cooling my 6950. Mini p180 case is well ventilated. No problem in keeping it cool.
Theres room for 2x120 or 1x140, but no need.
Any budget fan that can be slowed down and doesn't rattle will do.

Go for slipstream only if room is a problem (it blocks 3 slots for me)

Who is the current king of low-RPM ball bearing fans? (Someone else want to weigh in here?)

Silentshoe: In terms of longevity, you'll want to avoid sleeve bearings if the fan axis is vertical. Personally I look at good fans as a worthwhile investment. What's an extra $10 on a $500+ machine? :D But alecmg is right that you can slow down a lot of fans and they become pretty quiet... I've had issues with fans "clicking" at low speeds, though.

I have a second hand Noctua NF-S12 800 RPM zip tied in a modest HD4830, no problems till now. I have a second S1 Rev2 in a XT6800 with turbo module and i think thats a cheap and easy solution. Probably i could use s1 in both cards without a fan, but i feel safer with a fan :).

GT its a nice option if you are buying a new one (that or turbo module if you can get one).

I would suggest using 2 Scythe Jyu 100mm fans rather than one 120mm.

1) They fit perfectly: not bulky, cover all the surface, do not take up an extra PCI slot;
2) S1 fins are kinda apart, so you don't need high pressure fan to push the air through, you just need to blow on the fins - these fans suffice;
3) They are quiet. I have installed two 1000 rpm fans and regretted not going with 2000 rpm version, because even on maximum (i.e. 1000 rpm) I cannot hear them (even if I turn off all other fans).

Keep my reference 6850 consistently <33-34C while not gaming.
