60mm to 80mm Fan Adapter

Post by ChrisH » Thu Oct 09, 2003 10:38 am

I'm trying to quiet my new DirecTV Tivo recorder. It is the new series 2 design Philips DSR7000 for those who care. It uses a single 60mm fan on the back panel to exhaust the hot air. I have the Tivo in my bedroom and the fan noise is quite noticeable. I want to quiet it down. One idea I had was to use a Panaflo L1A 80mm fan on a 60-80mm adapter and mount it on the outside of the unit. The stock fan runs on 7V and pushes less than 14 CFM. Would the Panaflo at 7V with the shroud be able to pull enough air from inside the Tivo to keep it somewhere close to the current temperature?

Thanks,
Chris
