Fanless 460W psu for £60

Post by eniacs » Thu Jun 10, 2004 12:43 pm

Hi;
Some of you may have read my old tread about my plans for 550w silent psu, and by silent i mean truly silent ie not with a fan.

i have made it. It is not 550w as qtec psu's are rubbish and are not 550W, in fact they are not even 250W!

I have made a 460W psu it has no fans and is currently powering my overclocked p4 system with 4 hardrives, 2 cd drives and 9600xt. The FET temps are floating at 40degrees with the smaller coils hovering at 50-60 degrees. the hottest component is a huge resistor at 90 degrees, but i have those at work and they are specked upto like 250 degrees. I may glue on a heatsink to that not sure if i will bother or not yet.

Anyone want to see pictures, if no interest then i wont bother the hassel of hosting them.

Currently the case is of the computer and the psu (as it has no case) and the electrical noise from the psu is stopping my radio mouse and keyboard from working!

Will have to make a case for it tomorrow in work.
Steve.

Stick some pictures up mate and explain how your built, how long you've been stress testing etc. Would be interested.

Doh! can i not just describe it to you, im stuck in work practically all weekend!

Think of a big heatsink stuck to psu FETs of a modified enermax 460W and then think of the noise with no fan on the system at all. mmmmm its great!

So silent! and 3.6ghz worth of computing power...

Oh what stress tests do you want to see?
I have run 3d mark03 and checked temps, then run far cry for a couple hours checking temps every now and then. Very stable, although electrical noise must be resolved as using the mouse is difficult.
