Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu or Thermalright XP-120???
Which of these two heatsinks would cool better? I hear mixed reviews about both heatsinks....
I would be using a 120mm SilenX 14dba fan with the thermalright and the zalman would be running on high.
Also for those of you with the thermalright that had to bend capacitors, how easy was it to do so?
Setup:
-antec 3700BQE
-stock antec fan in the back
-nexus 120mm in the front
-a64 3200+
-asus k8v se deluxe
-leadtek 6800GT
-2 hard drives

Hrm, I have a 7000AlCu on my [email protected] right now, but I have a XP-120 on the way here and should arrive by the end of this month.
I'll give you some performance readings if you should happen to wait till then.

Re: Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu or Thermalright XP-120???
If you are going to continue using the k8v, since it cannot overclock more than about 220, would not the Zalman on low speed be sufficient cooling and quietness? The Zalman is half the cost of the XP-120/SilenX and there is no problem fitting it.nervx wrote:Which of these two heatsinks would cool better? I hear mixed reviews about both heatsinks....

I am planning to use the XP-120 with the SilenX, but I also plan to overclock as far as I can (240+ hopefully using the new DFI 754 MB) while remaining fairly quiet.
No you do have to bend them, i found a post with someone else using the board i have and he had to bend a bunch of stuff. Also mentioned that it was quite hard to install.I don't know for sure but the thermalright should cool better. About the installation, the ASUS K8V SE Deluxe is used in thermalrights installation instruction on their homepage. So you won't have to bend any capacitors.
I don't really plan to overclock but the thing is the 6800GT gives off a lot of heat when gaming so all temps go up a fair bit which means running the zalman on low isn't really an option. If you are going to continue using the k8v, since it cannot overclock more than about 220, would not the Zalman on low speed be sufficient cooling and quietness? Sounds like a prime candidate for the new Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer. If it's generate lots of heat, makes even more sense to vent the heat directly out the case instead of raising case temperature.nervx wrote:I don't really plan to overclock but the thing is the 6800GT gives off a lot of heat when gaming so all temps go up a fair bit which means running the zalman on low isn't really an option.
Strange I don't see any capacitors that needs to be bended in the instruction. Look at K8 installation on www.thermalright.com can't give you direct link as they use flashmenu.nervx wrote:

Direct link to Thermalright K8 Mobo compatibility list.nova wrote:Strange I don't see any capacitors that needs to be bended in the instruction. Look at K8 installation on www.thermalright.com can't give you direct link as they use flashmenu.nervx wrote:

What it says about the K8V SE Deluxe:

I missed the compatibility list. It's interesting that they would use a motherboard in their installation instructions that the heatsink doesn't completely fit on. Oh well, I now see that the xp120 will fit on the motherboard I'm about to buy, so thanks for that RalfRalf Hutter wrote:TR wrote:says about the K8V SE Deluxe:

Just installed XP120 with vantec stealth fan sucking on my chaintech vnf3 250, w newcastle 3200(2200) a64, running at 2500 10x250, temps down 9C (this board has small degrees speedfan 79C down to 70C)) while folding.
For amd64 you install an intel base. Now any fan that fits intel should fit on this base. Removing memory allowed clipping pipe side with fingers on this board
Arctic Silencer is wxcellent so far, 10C lower gpu temps idle, 7C lower chipset temp (by sensor) resulting from increased airflow in this area. Very quiet, now I can hear my other fans which I couldn't before due to BFG oc 6899GT fan
Awsome results, I now can hear my sons computer in another room. Guess I'll have to get to work!!

Does that Chaintec VNF3-250 support Cool'n'Quiet? I've found some new BIOS versions for that board that should supprot it.GlassMan wrote:Just installed XP120 with vantec stealth fan sucking on my chaintech vnf3 250, w newcastle 3200(2200) a64, running at 2500 10x250, temps down 9C (this board has small degrees speedfan 79C down to 70C)) while folding.

Have you tried?Version : 4.0
Date: 2004/10/19
Note :
Feature :1.Support K8 mobile CPU
2.Support Cool'n'Quiet
K8 mobile CPU will be boot with minimum frequency and Voltage , please adjust the relative data 4.0x-1.100v ,9.0x-1.300v , 10.0x-1.400v , 11.0x-1.500v
Please, share your expiriance because I'm looking for a new board to buy...
This is absolutely wrong. If you look at my sig, Thor is a A64-3000+ Newcastle core running at 2100 MHz at the moment with a PASSIVE graphics cooler and I've yet to see CPU temps pass 50C even after heavy gaming. And be sure, my Radeon 9700 is one really hot chip. AND I run my Zalman at BELOW low-speed settings.I don't really plan to overclock but the thing is the 6800GT gives off a lot of heat when gaming so all temps go up a fair bit which means running the zalman on low isn't really an option.
