Considering finally retiring my 64MB GeForce 4

They make noise, too.

Considering finally retiring my 64MB GeForce 4

Post by furymouse » Tue Oct 26, 2004 9:29 pm

From all the benchmarks I've seen the 6800 is the least I can get if I want to game @ 1024x768 with at least 60 FPS, so I've been looking at the GIGABYTE GV-N68128DH which is $285 just about everywhere it is in stock. I do hope now is a safe time to buy a 6800 and have a fully functional hardware video processor (reviews of this card are nonexistent). I've seen a report of a successful Rivatuner soft-mod to 16 pipes too.

If it isn't this video card, are there any other alternatives to achieving a passively cooled 6800 (If only BFG made one)? Also, I'm interested in finding out what memory this card sports (i.e. 2.2ns). 8)

Finally spotted a review of this card.

I'm adding the BFG 6800 OC as my alternative choice in the event no other method of fanless cooling is currently possible on a 6800. Anyone know how loud the dual fan setup is on the BFG?

I'd look at the 6600GT if I were you.
It will do 50-60fps at that resolution in Doom 3 (remember D3 is capped at 60fps).

You can passively cool it much easier than the 6800.

i would go for the 6800 gigabyte passive cooled one if ur not into games that much. also it would be wise to buy a 6800 from BFG since their lifetime warranty can't be beat. personally i would go for the BFG 6800 GT for its value and 16 piplines :D .

about doom3 being capped at 60 fps...
my 6800 GT runs doom 3 capped at 60 fps
but how come on review sites such as adrian's

http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?lo ... 140&var2=0
scroll to the bottom, last chart

their doom3 fps shows up around the 80s
i dun get it. :?:
