resellerratings.com is a good site to check out, ahem, *before* buying.
They are listed at bizrate as well.

My order hasn't shipped from isellsurplus either, although I'd give them a few days, not every online business is a well oiled machine like Newegg hehe.
I'd also like to put in another great testimonial for the LED fans from Computergeeks. I have to admit I was not expecting much from an LED fan, but this is a very nice fan indeed. It undervolts very well, starts up at 5v without any issues, and acoustically is about right on par with my globe 120mm's even though this LED fan is an "M" speed fan. Airflow is definitely there at 12v in case you need it as well.
Only quabble with it is the same with all Yate Loon's...closed screw holes...argh!

My Isellsurplus order shipped today as well. Definitely within the boundary of good business practice. Actually I don't really care since I'm so impressed with the LED fans from Computergeek I'll probably use those anyways lol. Oh well, never hurts to have an $8 Nexus laying around
I assume any of the plastic or metal cutting discs will work just fine, only thing I'd be careful of is the RPM. Keep it low at first, sometimes the cages of fans (particularly the LED ones if you ordered those from Compgeeks) is subject to cracking when cut on. I'm gonna do this sometime soon as well, I'll let you know my experience with both the orange and LED fans. Kind of getting the jitters since I massacred the front fan grill of my BQE trying to cut it out with a dremel, LOL. Oh well, we live and learn don't we?What are the best Dremel bits to use to cut the corners?
Received an email the other day saying mine was also shipped.Shriek wrote:I ordered from isellsurplus Sunday night, and my order posted as "shipped" in the last couple of hours.
I felt compelled to call to "make sure nothing was wrong with my order" earlier today--sheesh, I'm getting impatient for someone who never pays for above-minimum shipping.

I just recieved my order of fans from CompGeeks today. And there's a sleeper(surprise) among these fans. It's the all-silver 80mm aluminum frame fan for $3.50 called Typhoon.
This thing is quiet, quieter than the Yate Loon aluminum fan with the black fins. The model # on the label is FM802512M. The label is similar to the Yate Loon......but I don't think that's a Yate Loon #.
Starts at 5V, and has no bearing noise. Even at 12v it's quiet..... beats the Yate Loon easily.

Feh, the product page is useless... Anyone have specs on it?

did some digging, the aluminum and led versions of this fan have the same model number, so hopefully share motors and noise profiles:Bluefront wrote:I just recieved my order of fans from CompGeeks today. This morning I received my 2 orange 120mm CPU-D12SL12 fans, and 2 black 80mm CPU-8025M12BLK fans. Edward Ng is dead on about the orange fans they are a great deal and will be replacing my current evercool aoc 120.
The black ones have a different sticker than shown on the web page. The part # is the same 8025M12 although on one of them it is 8025M122II both are quite loud at 12v and undervolted, only thing I have to compare them to is a Sunon KD1208PTS-63 which sounds the same at as they do at 12v.

OK, cool, but does it beat an 80mm panaflo L1A? THAT'S the $100,000 question.Bluefront wrote:I just recieved my order of fans from CompGeeks today. And there's a sleeper(surprise) among these fans. It's the all-silver 80mm aluminum frame fan for $3.50 called Typhoon.

Hard to say because I don't have an L1A, nor will buy one because of the lack of RPM monitoring.
I can say this about the Typhoon (I bought five...all sound the same)....You can sit one on a hard counter, run it at 12v, and it doesn't move. There is no perceptable vibration transferred to the aluminum frame. I wouldn't hesitate to hard mount one of these to a case.
The only bad part is trying to run one of the supplied case screws into the aluminum frame.....takes an act of God.
This weekend I'll test the rest of my order....some orange Yate Loons, an LED version, and a few others.

I haven't tried mine yet.....but if that RPM reading is accurate, this orange Yate Loon fan, may not be the same model as the orange Nexus fan which is rated at 1000 RPM. Hmmmm.

According the Yate Loon website (http://www.yateloon.com/dcfan-2.htm#120x120x25) the fan that isellsurplus.com is selling (D12SL-12) is supposed to spin at 1350rpm. So I would say that the reading is accurate. The wierd thing is that this fan and the Nexus fan are both rated at 0.30amps.Bluefront wrote:I haven't tried mine yet.....but if that RPM reading is accurate, this orange Yate Loon fan, may not be the same model as the orange Nexus fan which is rated at 1000 RPM. It is not the same as the Nexus...
Hello:
If you check the begining of the thread, this was mentioned -- this one is the standard low speed model, and the Nexus 1K RPM unit is made specially for Nexus. I'm guessing, but they are *physically* the same, and so the startup current is the same. But, they are set up to run at different speeds on 12v.
The medium speed Yate Loon is the unit used in the Fortron Source PS, and it runs at 1650RPM or so?

Well I was thrown off by several people in this thread including Edward Ng, saying the Yate Loon was "identical" to the Nexus.....maybe they meant in looks only.
Basically a max speed of 1350 RPMs is more useful for me than the Nexus at 1000. Presumably undervolted, the Yate Loon should be as quiet as the Nexus. So the real Yate Loon is now the King.....for $8
