Fist post actually...I've been reading SPCR for quite a while, including doing research for PSU's. I think people have been looking for this one, as I know I have. It just showed up at Newegg today:

Hmm.. I think its weird that at least some Seasonic PSUs are FIMCO certified.. Considering the fact i have never seen them for sale here in Finland

FIMCO is one of the hardest certificates to get in europe.. That one also seems to certified in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, but no CSA approval? I thought that was a must have for US market.. Oh well, i guess i was wrong

I'd still rather opt for the S12-430 For $107 shipped, as opposed to the S12-500 for $146.

But I'm not buying quite yet. I'm putting together a new system and I'm still waiting for the 6800 GT PCI-E's to come down a little bit before I pull the trigger on everything.

In any case, Newegg's sister company, Chief Value, will hopefully have them soon (www.chiefvalue.com). They're a bit cheaper on certain items. For example, I got my Antec SLK-3000B from them for $56 shipped, vs. $71 shipped at newegg.

Good News that more S12s are entering the marketplace, the 430 is the one I am most interested in. I would like to see the price drop a bit though.

Now waiting for Mike's opinion of them.

Speaking about Seasonic s12 and sweden... I introduced the idea of stocking s12 to my former employeer and they didn't seem entirely against it. We might very well get an Uppsala-based supplier of Seasonics.

I have no idea how you found it. Everytime I do a search for "Seasonic" it doesn't come up. But its there so I'm happy.

I was definitely trying to save that extra cash between the 430 and 500. Excellent find!

I've been checking component prices and tracking availability for a number of months, and started reading up on power supplies as I realized I'll need to upgrade my Antec True330 to a nForce4 compatible power supply, as a 20 to 24 pin converter isn't recommended.

The S12-430 looks like the best option, since it has a quiet 120mm and it will give off less heat due to the greater efficiency...so I added it to my list of components to look for and prices to check, and low and behold it showed up today on newegg.

IMO, $106 is a lot for a power supply, and I have the luxury of waiting a bit longer, but if I had to get one today, I'd go ahead and spend the $20-$30 premium and get the S12-430 now.

Seasonic is relatively inexpensive in Canada. 430W @ CA$109.99 and 500W @CA$149.40.

I've been looking at the S12 ever since I stumbled across SPCR a couple weeks ago. When I saw the S12-430 at Newegg this morning on Pricegrabber I couldn't wait. My order is in and I can't wait for my PC to be quieter.

It'll be interesting to learn what fan model is in the 430watt unit. The S12 500watt has a Yate Loon ball bearing 5-blade high speed unit -- but it actually pretty quiet, under normal use anyway.

I think the S12-500's fan is the loudest part of my system right now (SLK3000B, 7000B@5V, VF700@5V, Antec Tri-Cool at minimum, 2x Nidec SP1614C suspended). Its minimum speed is 1000rpm and I've never had it ramp up.

I could be wrong, but I faintly recall that Mike might have mentioned that the lower wattage S12s used the same fan as the Super Tornado 400, but the high wattage ones used a louder fan like the Yate Loon you mentioned. Verification of this would be helpful.

One review online showed that it was a 7 blade fan in the s12 430w:

A review online of the s12 500w shows a 5 blade model. But that review
did not take the power supply appart so you could see the model number.

So what model has a 5 blade?

Do you all think there would be a difference in blades and fan noise?

The S12 500watt has a 5-blade, high speed, ball bearing, Yate Loon. (I can't see in the rear grill at the moment, but that is the gist of the model number.)

Not surprisingly , the 500 and 600 watt models use a ball bearing high flow fan. The 430 watt and below use the medium flow sleeve bearing fans.The bearing type matters more than the blades. Use the search function if you want to verify since its been discussed in previous threads on the S12 by Mikec. I'm too lazy to do it for you....

I have a yate loon D12BM-12D which is a 5 blade ball bearing 120x120x38 model. The 430w model has a D12SM-12 like they had at tekgems only black and w/o lights. - FG

Oooh, a 38mm thick DC fan besides the not-so-great Panaflo 120mm L1A. How do you like it? I'm sure there are those out there what would love to have a quiet 120x38 fan, but don't want to mess with the AC option.

Here is the 12cm fan RPM on my new S12-430
Idle at around 750RPM
Ran an hour of Prine95 the fam speed at about 900RPM

Regarding the yate loon D12BM-12D 120x120x38, I've only turned it on a couple of times, but I noticed it was very powerful and did not impress me as being really quiet - maybe at < 1000 rpm it could be fairly quiet. It puts out about as much air as an Acoustifan. I guess an interesting test would be a D12SM-12 and the D12BM-12D for those who are trying to decide between a s12 430 and s12 500. - FG

You will have no problem. All the adapter does is not use the four end lines. Its going the other way that can lead to unstable power. The adapter need to create four more pins which can cause problems.
