New Antec cases starting to appear

Post by jferrante » Mon Mar 28, 2005 6:20 am

D and H distributing, my primary distributor is now showing several of the new Antec cases in stock or in route. They are:
CS400, CS600, TX635, TX640, Titan550, TX1050B w/500watt, TX1088 w/480watt. No mention of the P180 or Sonata.

The CS400&600 are in stock and the description seems to make them a replacement for the 1600/2600 series, but with no PS or fans. (No pictures of anything posted yet)

Here's the description they have listed for the TX1050B:

"TX1050B - SOHO File Server - black - 500 Watt PSU - Advanced cooling system with 120mm tricool fan, chassis air guide with optional 92mm intake fan to provide maximum cpu cooling, side panel with optional 80mm fan with the vent to provide maximum cooling to the vga card. Built in washable air filter. Antecs latest ATX12V v2.01 power supply."

I'll post again when I find out more.

Every date I've ever been given for a product launch has always been pushed back in the 7 years I've been at Antec (I'm talking about dates flung around the office). Such that until it's in the warehouse (in Fremont), it's not here in my mind. So why that happens?
Just tell me it will be out by September so I can get myself one for my birthday. Actually make that July so prices can be normalized by the time I purchase, thanks! :P 8)

Seriously it is nice having you post what you can, and it's probably a good policy not to talk dates until it's actually shipping to stores as people will get frustrated if they are counting on something being availible at a certain date and it's not.

D and H is now showing an ETA date of 4-13-05 on the cases and power supplies I listed above.

Still no listing for Sonata or the p180.

Am I the only one who's concerned about the top 120mm vent? I know it's to allow more efficient cooling of the cpu, but it's been mentioned in other threads that it's better to have the fans as far away from you as possible (i.e. - the back).

As pointed out in many threads about the 3000B, it is fairly easy to close a vent hole that you don't want to use. This is equally true for any other case.

P180 height details

Damn, now I'm going to have to buy a new desk too!
Similar concern here. Am curious, though, for anyone who's seen it -- does the 21.3" height perhaps include the top fan cover? I notice the P160 is 20.3" high, am expecting (hoping) that maybe the P180 is similar with the extra inch accounted for mostly by that top fan cover.

Really need a case for a PC upgrade soon -- if this doesn't come out by mid-April or so, I'll have to go with the P160 or the WaveMaster, and this looks far preferable to either. Godspeed, Antec...

Does the Titan still have 2 92mm's up front? The TX looks nice is that 80mm they are talking about upfront? or on the side panel as well?

Really?
I expect it to retail at 20-40% more than that here in Denmark. We have to pay around £101 or $190 for a case like Silverstone's TJ06.

But why should it cost more than Temujin Six?

I don't understand the price comparisson to a TJ06 either. A more logical conclusion from that UK site is that the P180 initially costs 1.5 times what a Sonata costs now. That would amount to ~€155 on the Dutch market. Which is more than what you pay for a TJ06 (€127).

My point was that the TJ06 (as far as I know) is priced lower that the P180 is going to be... Thus the comparison.

For reference, 1.5 times a Sonata in Denmark would be $218...

Insiders with info? AntecRep, perhaps you have an answer to this question (does 21.3" = height of the case *including* top fan cover, or not)? Am itching to know!

While I do not know inside info, I can tell you that manufacturers always list maximum external heights, so the edges of things and highest peeks are listed, not just the box portion.

They would have to full refund all orders that complained about this, as it would be false advertising.

Jefe, thanks much, that is reassuring to hear (I had hoped as much, but was unsure). Basically, I have a keyboard tray that would be too low (20.5" clearance) to accomodate the full 21.3", but if nearly an inch (I hope) of that is the blowhole cover at the back, the tray shouldn't interfere with it. I now feel better about waiting a while longer for this puppy.

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond.

Yes the 21.3" includes the spoiler. Without it heigh it is about 20.5".

Yet another question.

I have been putting off buying a new system for quite some time now waiting for the p180. Could you give us a hint or indication of when we might be able to get our hands on this case? I'm really looking forward to it but getting more impatient.

Thanks.

Yeah. basically, I am going to go for this as soon as its out. I NEVER say that about anything besides for half-life2 and diablo2.

however, if it goes another month and no word, im considering it dead in the water and will just go my merry way of buying something else. I have sound proof mass loaded vinyl stuff I am going to try and get going.

Ooh -- cutting it close but I think it will just barely make it under my tray. Thanks for the response.

Count me among those (im)patiently waiting.

Here's something that I've been confused about since I first saw/heard about this case:

WHAT is the purpose of the mesh dust-screen-lookin-thing that everyone seems to be calling a "spoiler"? Why would one want to filter the air coming out of the case?

Hopefully we would put effort into filtering air going INTO the case, then we wouldn't have to worry about air coming out. If anyone has some insight into the reasoning behind this, please let me know.

To stop stuff like paperclips from falling into the fan.

Not to mention all the dust that would gather there when the fan is not running. This depends a bit on locale, but I suppose the chances of things falling into the fan while running has to do with locale as well (ie whether or not one has kids. ;)

BTW I might have missed it, but is this the longest thread in SPCR history yet? It sure has generated a LOT of interest, especially considering there are no units shipped yet!

OK could I just say I check SPCR now twice daily to see if the P180's have started shipping yet? So yeah, it's generated QUITE a bit of interest... :? It's just a bit frustrating having to wait for so long to get a nice, long, in-depth spcr review of one... or have the chance to purchase one myself...

But about the "spoiler"... wouldn't it have been just as effective, if not more so, to make the top of the spoiler solid, with the raised part behind the case open? I'm just worried that after they took such special care to eliminate direct paths of sound to the user, they left one glaring error! Has this occured to anyone else....?

PS: Yeah, I mentioned that earlier in the thread about the top blowhole. The response I got was "if it bothers you so much, block it off". But A) For a super quiet case I shouldn't have to fix such a glaring error and B) That's where the air is supposed to exhaust. The back fan, normally the exhaust, is where the air comes in, and the blowhole is where it goes out. I don't know what eliminating the exhaust portion would have on temps. Or even if I covered up the top hole, and used the back one as an exhaust instead.

It's not marketed to just SPCR types. I think it may have been included simply because some people,(especially certain segments of the overclocking crowd) expect a high end case to have a top exhaust of some kind.

fans

Post by mattek » Mon Apr 18, 2005 1:51 pm

It is my understadning that there is both a fan in front and behind the drive cages. Just look at all the images that have come out. There are two front 120mm fans then the drive cages and after that one 120mm fans for the lower drive cage.
In total the p180 seems to sport five 120mm fans standard plus one optional 92mm duct fan.

With the P180 obviously being delayed a bit, does anyone know of the design changes that have been made since the preview?

And if anyone does know when the P180 will be released, don't hesitate to yell at the forums.
