Which one is cooler? Zalman 7000 ALCU with Nexus 92 mm or SI-97 with Nexus 92 mm?

The difference wouldn't be that big, cost and clearance on your motherboard would probably be the biggest concerns. Either way, they're both great products.

At the same noise level SI-97 will win, especially as the voltage is dropped, as the nexus fan has far quieter bearings than the zalman fan included with the 7000.

Elixer: That's not what he meant.

He wants to know which is cooler, the Zalman MODDED with a Nexus, or the SI-97 with a Nexus.

This may depend on case layout.

Rumor has it that the normal Zalman will outperform the Thermalright series under poor airflow, while the Thermalrights will win out on better airflow. No idea if that still applies when the Zalman is modded with a Nexus.

With no other changes I swapped a Zalman 7000 with a 92mm Nexus for an XP-90 with a 92mm Nexus. At full load with fans at minimum fanmate voltage my processor was five degrees centigrade cooler with the XP-90.

Michael,

I'm considering just the CPU cooler swap (with those fans) that you did. Thanks for the CPU temp information.

Do you have any data comparing other temps (case, PWM, NB, etc.) with these two coolers?

What case are you using? How would you characterize your airflow?

My case is an Antec SLK3700BQE with a single rear 120mm Nexus at minimum fanmate voltage. At full load with CPUBurn and with the CPU fan at 5 volts, motherboard temperature was 37 degrees centigrade and samsung HD temperature was 41 degrees centigrade with either one of the heatsinks. With the Zalman full load CPU temperature was 69 degrees. The XP-90 reduced full load CPU temperature to 64 degrees.
