ANTEC P180 / ASUS A8N SERIES MOBOs & "P/S Cord Reac

Hi:

Are there any other Antec P180 case owners with Asus A8N SERIES mobos out there? I just received my P180 case yesterday but have not yet purchased the power supply I would like to use in this new system build. I've heard via the grapevine that some P/S Power Cables and/or the 4 pin ATX12V cable cannot make the long distance from the case's bottom chamber to the connector location on the motherboard in the upper chamber for these two cables.

Again, my motherboard is the Asus A8N-SLI and I want to use either the Seasonic S12-430 or S12-500 and/or the Enermax EG495P-VE(SFMA). Does anyone know if these P/S have BOTH power cable and ATX12V cable length that will make the distance from the lower chamber to the connector positions on the Asus A8N-SLI mounted in the top chamber ???

Two alternative choices for power supplies are the the Enermax Whisper II EG565P-VE FMA2.0 or the Fortron Source AX500A Bluestorm.

Any comments or any suggestions on these Power Supplies, the Asus A8N series mobos, the P180 and this "reach" problem will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I have the Seasonic S12 500 and both power cables reach just fine. However, I have an extension kit made by Silverstone which extends both the 24-pin power cable and the 4-pin atx cable. By using this kit, the cable can be routed much more neatly. I think the only place that carries the kit is here:[/url]http://www.sundialmicro.com/Power-Suppl ... 6.html[url]

However, the wires do fit without the kit on the A8N-SLI.

So what did you decide to do Fisher? Did you go with the Seasonic?

I haven't decided WHAT I'm going to do yet.

I haven't received hardly any feedback here OR over at AT forum.

I HAVE a Fortron Source AX500A Bluestorm P/S and I was trying to sell it to purchase a quieter Seasonic but since it seems that the S12-430 cables won't reach and the S12-500 cables will barely reach I may just open the Fortron and see if its cables WILL reach.

I really don't want to use that Silverstone extension kit. As someone pointed out to me, using those adaptors increases contact resistance and can provide the opportunity for up to 28 different connection spots to fail. I'd just rather try to find a P/S that has cables that will reach by themselves.

There are not many people offering suggestions, however.

Yo Fisher,

I'm in a similar situation. I have a P180 that I'm getting ready to build my new system around. However, I have not purchased my PSU and I'm favoring the Seasonic S12-430. I'm also considering a Phantom 350.

I hope you get some feedback soon, because I don't want to use an extender either. I'll keep coming back to this thread and hopefully someone will provide their 2 cents.

Thanks for responding. May I ask what a Phantom 350 is ??? Who makes it ???

I hope this thread gets more attention too.. Someone over at the AT forums told me there is another similar thread to this one already posted over here but I can't find it.

Please let me know what you find out about the Seasonic S12-430's cable lengths and the Phantom or if you "find" the "other" thread.

Phantom 350 is the passive psu by Antec. They also make a hybrid passive/active cooled psu called the phantom 500. In US dollars, the are roughly 150$ and 175$ respectively.

As many mobos have the 4pin in the now-annoying upper left corner, interest in psu compatibility is high. I hope people answer you both here and at AT.

I have the P180 with a Seasonic S12 430 and the cables reach OK to my Asus A8N-SLI Premium motherboard. . The top 4 pin connector barely reaches, but it does indeed work just fine. I'm planning to get an extension so that I can route the cable better, but it's not essential.

Thanks for the info; wow, the phantoms aren't cheap; but does anything really good come cheaply ??? Well, every once in a while something comes along that is inexpensive and also good.

I think you meant "...now annoying upper RIGHT corner..." !

I too hope more people respond at THIS thread and the one at AT.

Jason, thanks. It's nice to know that the Seasonic s12-430 will "work" with the Asus A8N series boards and their far upper right location for the ATX12V connection installed in the P180.

I have heard conflicting reports on the lengths of the 430's cables so your information is reassuring.

the cables on the seasonic may reach the power connectors on the premium board but there is 0 slack on both the main and atx power cables. i definitely wouldn't want to keep them that way. i would not recommend using a seasonic psu with a asus a8n board and the p180 unless you're going to use an extension kit.

PAY NO ATTENTION to this troublemaker. He posted at my thread at AT concerning this same issue, I took the time to point him over here and he goes and makes a statement like he did; can't he read ??? One poster in this thread said the Seasonic S12 500 CAN make the reach and a different poster mentions that the S12 430 can make the reach also.

Go figure, this Andy dude !
