TomG - I'd be interested to hear more of your thoughts comparing the Panaflo and Evercool fans. In the UK I can get Evercool for £1.56, but the Panaflo is a minimum of £8.99, excl P&P! I've ordered an Evercool to try out. According to their specs, there's only 2dBA difference in it. How would you judge noise levels/quality of the two? And do you have any experience of the Panaflo 1L?TomG wrote:I did a couple of simple tests this morning comparing the Panaflo 1M fan and the Evercool.
Panaflo 80 "M" -- nice alternative!!

Digikey also has Panaflo 80mm M1BX RPM-sensing fans listed in their catalog.
http://dkc3.digikey.com/PDF/T031/0974.pdf
In fact, they're the only site that comes up if you Google for fba08a12m1bx.
$10.13 each though.
At the same price, the also have
FBA06A12L1BX
FBA06A12H1BX
FBA08A12M1BX
FBA09A12L1BX (for an SLK-900? 42.7CFM @ 27dB @ 12V, might be quite nice @ 5-7V)
FBA09A12H1BX
$18.50 for FBA12G12H1BX (103.8 CFM!)
(FBLs have louvers in the body for supposedly better CFM/dB)
$13.13 for FBL08A12U1BX or FBL09A12H1BX
Shipping & handling smalll orders from Digikey tends to be $$.

Unfortunately, it looks like they are out of them. I sent an email a few weeks ago asking if they were getting more in, and I received a cryptic "Just how many are you looking for?" response. I replied that I just needed a few, and haven't heard back since.Athlon Powers wrote:I got L1As there and Im gonna buy two more M1As to 5v for case vents.Ralf Hutter wrote:So-Tricks's where I got my M1As from. I got a response, a shipment will be in on June 5th along with 3 and 4 pin tails.bzo wrote:Unfortunately, it looks like they are out of them. However, not withstanding the above, it looks like perhaps a FBL design Panaflow would be better suited for a case fan rather than an FBA, assuming it's blowing in the 17.5 CFM to 36.5 CFM range of course.
Looking at the specs, the:
120L FBA blows 68.9 CFM max
120L FBL blows 52.95 CFM max
I just ordered two 120L1A fans from Bigfoot, which I'm pretty sure are the FBA type. Since I plan of 5V the fans (and using them as case fans intake/exhaust) perhaps I would be better off with the FBL fan, but only if 5V puts it in the 17.5 CFM to 36.5 CFM range.
Anyway, I'm just inviting anyone to give any info on these FBL Panaflow fans as they sound like they could be a great resource. Anyone have any first hand experience with these things ? Anyone know the mathmatical relationship between voltage and CFM (if one exists) ?
Sorry for the novel.
I am very surprised that no one else has commented on this !!(FBLs have louvers in the body for supposedly better CFM/dB)

Leading me to believe that an FBA fan is probably the best for CPU cooling (a HSF).FBA fans force air out in a “funnel” type pattern,
and are ideal when cooling a specific area that is
surrounded by numerous components with
minimum ventilation available.
However, regarding the FBL series,
Notice the word standard. Obviously, undervolting it will lower its CFM, so that will change the noise aspect of the fan, but maybe the above means that these fans make more noise regarless when running out of spec.Louvered design increases air flow and
decreases turbulent noise at standard
rating conditions.

digikey.com has a nice selection:
http://dkc3.digikey.com/PDF/T032/1032.pdf
Also bought some Panaflo tails (see bottom of catalog page) and fan filters from them.

The key here is the CFM range of 17.5 CFM to 36.5 CFM. If you were undervolting the 80mm fans, then that would place them under 17.5 CFM I would assume (I'm not sure about this).I tried some of the 80mm FBLs back when Silicon Acoustics carried them and they didn't seem to cool better or any more quietly than regular L1As

Dammit !! Just when I thought my OCD picked up on something that others may have missed. One day I will have a break through, one day !! (or maybe just a break down)
P.S. - Still, it may be worth trying for the 120mm Panaflows. If I decide to splurge and buy one and try it out, I'll let ya'all know how it goes. I'd probably get the Medium Flow and 5V it.

alot of new panaflo fans are made in china at a crappy factory now.betty wrote:I know that this is an old thread.. but I just installed an old M1A into my case - 5volted it, and it clicks like CRAZY. The clicking is loud.. I guess it's just mine.
Anyone else have the same experience?
Betty.
Those are known to click and stuff, it just sucks if you get one

I've ordered these in the past to try them out and out of a batch of 3, none would start at 12V, FWIW.Ralf Hutter wrote:Won't it run at half speed (if it runs at all) at 12V? Hmm...I wonder how quiet it would be at 12V?JarsOfFart wrote:http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/c ... type=store
Panaflo® DC Brushless Model FBA08A24M for $3.00. It needs 24 volts I think looking at the "24" in the model number, not the standard 12, but it seems to just have the standard 3 pin motherboard connector. Can I still use this one?
