Looking for a quiet Heatsink in a tight case.
I have been reading for days and all I have is a headache.
I am building an HTPC system with an AMD XP 64 3200+.
The case is a silverstone LC-17.
I cannot fit the ninja or other tall heatsinks.
The Big Tornado is out.
The SI-120 is out.
I have about 120MM in height to work with.
I can't go bigger then a 120MM wide or it will hit my video card.
Almost does even with a 120 horizontal fan.
Right now it seems my best bet would be a XP-90C, with a quiet fan.
Any other suggestions to look at?
No overclocking or heavy gaming, but some h.264 video decoding which can be a little taxing, but not FEAR taxing.
Thanks,
Mark

AC Freezer 64Pro should do the trick. Quiet enough around 7-9V for me and dimensions should fit too. (Overall Dimensions:107 x 96.5 x 126.5 mm)markrb wrote:Thought of that one, but 130MM high.
Ever so slightly too tall.

Or even smaller Scythe Samurai Z cooler. Overal dimensions are 128 x 85 x 98mm w-b-h. Those are WITH fan on.

Hi, a Zalman 7000 might fit too, height no problem but check on the round. I measure mine at 110mm across (about 1cm less than a CD if that helps). It's now "old tech" but that means it's now cheaper and still got plenty of cooling power for a modern 90nm Athlon 64. Mine cools my Athlon XP Barton overclocked 2.2GHz/1.7V (~80w) to 50°C load at 1200rpm. If you have an older 110nm CPU then I would suggest the higher performance XP-90 with Nexus fan as a safe bet.

Before buying a Zalman make sure it is compatible with your motherboard.SebRad wrote:Hi, a Zalman 7000 might fit too, height no problem but check on the round.

I'm in a similar predicament however I need a HSF solution that is no taller than 75mm for my Athlon XP 2500+ in my Antec Aria. I am currently looking at the following Heatsink, but it will need a fan:
Thermaltake CL-P0006

Here's another possibility: Coolink BEAR1VS. It's an older cooler, but very inexpensive. I have it's bigger brother. You can swivel it to any angle for airflow in any optimal direction (not even limited to 90 degree increments).
