safe to put two fans on a single fanmate 2?

I don't know enough about voltages to figure it out. I have 2 80mm fans that evacuate air from my case and I want to be able to control their voltage with a fanmate. Would using a 3pin splitter and a fanmate 2 work? Or will I need a fanmate for each of the fans? Thanks!

Yeah, as long as they are not too high amp, the FanMate should still be within spec with both.

What fans will you be using? D12SM-12 YLs?

It's the wattage, which matters.

FanMate2 is rated at 6 watt max. That is, it can maximum DELIVER 6 watt.

A Nexus 12 cm fan, for example, is rated to CONSUME 1,8 watt max. So a FanMate2 can control three 12 cm Nexus - 1,8 + 1,8 + 1,8 = 5,4 watt.

The fans should be connected in parrallel, so using a Y-splitter as you suggest, is a good idea. Using this method, I've been running two Nexus' on one FanMate2 for a while. Not a single problem.

If you are using your MOBO fan conector, remember to check the maximum wattage...

For DC anyway, Mike_P. AC wattage = Volts * Amps * Power Factor. IIRC anyway. I have only an elementary knowledge of electrical engineering.

I will start off using the stock silverstone 80mm fans and see what types of noise vs cooling performance I can get. Otherwise, I will probably go with some panaflo's or maybe give the new arctic cooling fans a shot. thanks for the info.
