Shuttle X100 Preview

Post by dougz » Fri May 19, 2006 7:02 am

Shuttle is finally competing in the arena of ultra-small portable computing with the X100. The Mac Mini and the AOpen Mini PC fall into this category. This is quite exciting in the sense that not only does the computer have to be extremely portable and quiet but at the same time it must be powerful enough to satisfy our needs in the entertainment world. We finally got our hands on the Shuttle X100 for an early preview of what is to come in a couple months. http://www.sfftech.com/index.php?/conte ... 0_preview/

I want to see some internal pics of how they have solved the cooling issue. It looks too sleek to have good cooling.

Was goofing around and noticed that Mwave has these in stock. Has anybody tried one yet or feel like being a guinnea pig? :D

No video card is listed, but I'd assume it's X1400.

I am oh so close to getting one. It is 699 on Shuttle's own site and configurable.

I really hope it is QUIET SILENT :)

FYI, Sudhian.com now has a full review.

The author says in the discussion thread that it's very quiet under light to medium loads but the fan does ramp up under high loads.

I'm very tempted to get one for a lossless music server since it uses 3.5" hard drives (I need 500 GB for lossless FLAC, plus lossy AAC, plus the operating system).

I would imagine the hard drive would be loud and it looks like you're going to have a field day trying to suspend it.
