The 7700's fins just barely reach the IGP heatsink, and the fan is not directly over the IGP, but it still makes a remarkable difference nonetheless. I used to have a Zalman 7000 (again with low-speed Nexus fan mod), and even the fins on that one didn't reach over the IGP, but it still kept the IGP reasonably cool. There's just no way I would call my IGP "red hot."kentc wrote:the xp-90 doesn't stretch over the nb so air has to bounce out towards it. maybe 7700 stretches over it, providing more direct airpath?
I dunno, maybe the inverted mobo mounting and fresh air CPU duct on the side panel of my case make a bigger difference than I thought. That could be why I'm getting such good cooling results with so little airflow.

winguy - how about checking the thread before asking?
kentc wrote:subjectively much cooler running. 10-20 degrees according to my finger thermometer. with the original sink i couldn't hold my fingers on it for more then a second, now i might just rest my cold feet on it in winter for comfort.kentc wrote:i bought the zalman zm-nb47j nb cooler today, to put on the gpu. i shall report when it's done.
kind of a bad fit though, too big. had to mount it at about a 15 degree angle which looks kind of silly. square didn't fit and neither did 45 degrees.
also the thermal paste that was on the puny original wasn't very well applied, probably causing even higher temperatures to the chip then could be felt on the hetsink.
reagrds, kent.
That post is about a ZM-NB47J. Winguy was asking about a ZM-NBF47. Yes, it's confusing, but they are two entirely different products. The NBF is a fan-style northbridge cooler, something like a miniature 6000Al with thicker and less fins.kentc wrote:winguy - how about checking the thread before asking?
any system power consumption numbers?
Just wondering if anyone who has a GeForce 6150 setup have any system power usage numbers? I'm looking for a low power setup and wondering what the idle power numbers are like.
Thanks!
Thanks!
