Amusing computer related names

Post by andyb » Sat Feb 17, 2007 2:45 am

Names that we use for computer companies and products

Dell = Hell
Packard Bell = Craphard Smell
IBM Deskstar = IBM Deathstar
Fujitsu = Fushitsu

I am sure there are a lot of names that we use for companies and products that we dont like, or just like to give a "pet hate" name to.

Go nuts people, anything goes.

I'm not sure if the moderators should allow this thread, if those companies become aware of this name calling they might object.
Anyway, I use to say quite often MegaSh!t instead of M$.

I would think companies have better things to do than read threads with weird versions of their name.

Anyway, Seagate could be Seagay. And im pretty sure someone has called Maxtor Crapxtor. And Scythe could be Shyte, at least the mounting on the Ninja Rev.B is very much so.

The low-low-dB company we all love for their marketing efforts - Thermalfake

Contrary to what lots of people might say, there'll always be Gigashite for me.

How about Microshaft?

I really hate to perpetuate this thread, but, from back in the Browser Wars days:

Netscape = nutscrape

Internet Explorer = Internet Exploder*

*There were even websites dedicated to this, as well as all sorts of neat jpegs and gifs of the logo.

Beat me to them! :) I still say these once in a while...

I usually end up just adding or substituting a standard expletive on to part or all of the actual company name. Sometimes it comes out funny because it's so over-the-top angry sounding.

E-Machines = Ebola-Machines (they are full of shit that just wants to bust out).

And the PSU's that they use, which having seen dozens of Ebola Machines I would say that the faliure rate is >80%

Bestec = Bustec
Bestec = Worsetec

Eh, that just looks weird. If you're gonna point out the badness, it's better to use Winblows.

Nobody mentioned HAL, the computer in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Apparently, HAL was named so to indicate that it was one step ahead of IBM. Alphabetically "H" "A" "L" precede "I" "B" "M" by one letter. However, Arthur C Clarke denies it, claiming that "HAL" is an acronym for "Heuristically programmed algorithmic computer". Who's right?
