Hi everybody, just re-installed F@H and assigned me to SPCR team
My lady has a genetic blood disorder called thalassemia where her body makes inneficient red blood cells so hopefully this kind of research will provide answers for her in the future. Thankyou to you all, it's good to do something, however small

hi i've been using the graphical client for a bit and initially all was fine, then it started saying it couldnt transmit the the units, cant connect to work server etc....but i'm getting the points and new things to fold so nothing actually seems wrong.
Just finished my first unit on the console client and same trouble
Do you know if this is a problem for me or Stanford etc?
cheers

It takes around 2 hours to complete a step. I am keeping it running 24/7.avi_dan wrote:What performance are you seeing? How long does it take to complete a step (%)Shukuteki wrote:Just started folding with a 930mhz Pentium 3 running ubuntu.
Any bit helps I suppose.
I put an old pIII laptop to work under XP and it takes about 1.5 hour for one step...
I had it running passively with a fanless Scythe Katana, but at 100% the Katana gets a little toasty. I was forced to put a small 80x15 fan at 5v zip tied to the heatsink to keep it from overheating. The PSU is still the loudest part of the whole thing though, even with a Scythe 92mm fan mod.
Just started folding this month. I figured I might as well - for the time being - do something with the power at my disposal that has been idling since some time last year. I chose your team especially since the machine is so silent thanks to the ideas and inspiration from cmthomson's Core 2 Duo rig. My last setup was silent as well, but only because I had it inside a massive enclosure that kept the noise inside for six years non-stop. It was huge and ugly. Now I have a system that is also silent, tiny by comparison and overkill performance-wise.
Clients running on both E6600 cores; frame time seems to be 21 and a half minutes. 14 WUs done! I'm doing this as Anonymous though, since it seemed abandoned (no new units for a few years) and I didn't feel like creating a new name that might very well get abandoned sometime in the future. Plus this way I got a head start!

Now folding with smp client on Athlon 64 x2 3600+
Hi Folders,
I became aware of folding via the forum post on spcr being passed by a Russian team, and started out on my old duron applebred, using the name silent_applebred. I think I did 2 work units before I got the stuff to upgrade (not just for folding, but that gave me one more excuse. ) Recycling case, ps, disks, and cables, For $205 including shipping I got
Athlon64 x2 3600+, 2G Wintec ddr2 667, Arctic Alpine 64 fan, and MSI K9VGM-V motherboard with via chipset.
I've been using Linux since '94, and my install of Ubuntu 7.04 64 bit was my smoothest install ever. The bios got the wrong memory speed, which I corrected manually. Otherwise everything installed with no hitches related to drivers, even for video and audio. If you are looking for a cheap am2 board for folding or just about anything except gaming, you might consider it.
With 64-bit ubuntu, don't forget the 32 bit compatibility library you have to install yourself . Otherwise no problem with folding with the SMP client.
I started my first smp work unit late last night, and now it's 18% done, so it should be about 3 days a work unit.

Jhonny come lately..
Howdy SPCR F@H's!
Been reading this site for years now. Had F@H running for team 0, but figure since this is the best PC site on the net, I had to join your team! Better late than never.
I will run at least on p3 500 an p3 1200 24/7 plus up to 5 newer pcs on part time.

Corey_Moncure
and:
mark092006
Congratulations! Did I miss anybody else new?

Just joined and managed to get a few decent machines folding.
One thing that has me quite disappointed is the large amount of communications errors and discarded WU's I keep seeing. It's not fun losing several k in points just from errors.
I've "folded" quite a bit in the past for dnetc and never saw these kinds of issues. Hope I'll get these solved and can soldier on for the team.
