Cpu Cooler for Antec Fusion and Abit Fatal1ity F-190HD Mobo

Hi everyone,

I'm looking forward to assembling my first quiet-ish HTPC (I've done several traditional rigs though) in the following week or so. The components are following:

- Antec Fusion -case (14(H) x 44.5(W) x 41.4(L) cm)
- Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD Xpress1250 -motherboard
- 1x 2048MB OCZ PC2-6400 (DDR2-800) CL4 KIT XTC Gold Rev2
- Intel Celeron D352 3.2GHz TRAY 512KB
- Samsung SH-S183L SATA LightScribe
- Samsung 320GB T166 HD321KJ 7200RPM SATA

The only part which is still unclear to me is the cpu cooling solution. I should anyways decide upon that soon, since I'm getting the rest of the gear in the end of this week.

The plan is to upgrade to Core2Quad after the autumn price cuts and to get a middle-class DX10 graphics card (Geforce 8600?) at the same time. So the cpu heatsink/cooler should be pretty efficient to handle the core2quad.

The coolers that I've had on my mind are Zalmans alcu 7000 (with adapter), Thermaltakes XP-128 and Scythes Andy Samurai. Zalman is by far the cheapest alternative and used also on the SPCR:s NSK2400 -article, but I'm pretty doubtful that it could handle the Core2Quad. Scythes Mini Ninja would be nice as well (when/if it comes out sometimes). But I'm not sure if the upmarket options are a bit overkill in my case?

So, what would be your suggestions for this? Feel free to comment the other components as well...

My initial reaction is why do you want/need a quad core CPU in a HTPC? I built mine using a fanless cooler on a T7200 core2duo mobile CPU, although if I was starting again I'd be tempted to base my selection around the board you've chosen and go for a regular C2D.

There have been a few threads about coolers in the Antec Fusion case, try a search.

The thing is that it is going to be my only decent pc-system as well and I'd like to use it for gaming and music production every once in a while. I chose to make the system a HTPC because I already have a Fujitsu-Siemens Myrica VQ32-1 lcd-tv (and so I save the price for a separate screen).

Yes they are, but I need to buy the heatsink in a week or so.

I used a Noctua NC-U6 Northbridge cooler as the motherboard I'm using (Asus NH4l-VM DH) uses a proprietary mount. I've mounted the cooler using the retention bracket off the stock cooler Asus bundle with the board. The airflow from the two 120s in the fusion case keeps it all nice and cool.

I ended up getting Aerocools XFire -HSF with 120mm fan. Fits like a charm and is reasonably efficient, quiet and was also pretty cheap (36 euros).

I'm desperately trying to find a quiet cooler with good performance to fit on the i90HD in an NSK2400. I hoped I'd found the answer with the Xfire but I notice the review said there's only a 2 degree drop in temperature from stock. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/398/4/

As I'm not getting any help over at viewtopic.php?t=30920&start=180 I wonder if you'd be able to confirm the height of the xfire with or without the fan + give an idea of how much clearance there is between the fan and the top of the case?

I decided to skip Fusion and got a NSK2400 as well. I'd say that there is around 2-3 cm between Xfires fan and the case lid. I guess itÂ´s true that Xfire isn't that much more powerful than the stock cooler but it is definately more silent.

Thanks subdependent. So if the whole XFire is 4"(100mm) and there's a 20mm gap above it then I guess the maximum HSF height for this case will be around 120mm. I've been trying to work it out for days.
