so i decided to use some old comoputer parts and build a quiet(hopefully silent) pc. For now it has a wd2500 hard drive which is loud but will be replaced with a 2.5" fujitsu most likely and a ultra psu which is loud and will also be replaced ---->viewtopic.php?p=373978#373978.
that leaves me with a socket a amd 3000+. I have herd that socket a's run hot. anyways does anyone have any idea on how i might go about making it quiet. I would like to have it in a small case (slim micro atx) but dont know if this is possible. also, I am ready and willing to under clock it in the pursuit of silence.
I was looking at the silver stone lc19 but am thinking there is no way i will fit my mobo and a HSF that will cool enough in that case. maybe the antec minuet is more realistic? (or a case that size)
socket a is so very very noisy (ideas?)

One thing what you probably need to do is undervolt/underclock your CPU substantially.
I've used Athlon XP 2800+ Barton for some time. Reducing it's core voltage by 0.25V (from 1.65V to 1.4V) and lowering FSB at same time could decrease power consumption about 15-20W... I had Abit NF7 motherboard with many adjustable settings - I hope your mobo allows undervolting/underclocking.
