Title says it all, link takes you there. Smokin' deal on a great silent card!

"The core temperature of the ECS card is just striking! A reference card with lower frequencies grows 85°-90° hot at the core, and its noise is quite noticeable, while this card does not grow hotter than 65°! Even without additional fans! (Tests were run with the closed system enclosure, standard airflow.) That's excellent!"

Yes, I agree it sure is a darn good deal for $145 dollars! Well, so long ECS 9600 GT and welcome ECS 8800 GT.

Argh. And I just bought the silent ECS 9600GT for $150. Is it worth the 15% restocking fee though?
Oh wait. I still have to send in the stupid rebate form in to knock it down to $125.

$50? Shipping costs $27.50? Anyway, the ball is in your hands, and the ECS 8800 GT will soon be in my hands.sea2stars wrote:Heh. Of course I want the faster card but for what I'm going to be using it for, computer modeling and some simulation stuff with Crysis maybe, I'm not sure if it'd change things much. I don't game much beyond my 360. Add in shipping costs and I'm looking at a $50+ loss if I switch cards.
The ECS 8800GT arrived yesterday and today I installed the card. First diasppointment was one of the clips that holds the heat sink to the card fell off in the bag, not a good sign of quality control. I was able to put the clip on.
The next shocker was temperature of this card in my system is around 7C hotter at idle than my ECS 9600GT, which did surprise me. I figured the temperature would be a few degrees Celcius higher, but I was not prepared for 7-8C higher. While idling at around 52C is not a big deal, I do have the central air running all day today because it's around 90F outside. So, I imagine on a pleasantly warm day of perhaps around 75F outside, the 8800GT would idle at a higher temperature than now--I don't run the central air when it's 75F outside, unless it's very humid.
Of course, there are those two little fans included with the Accelero S1, but I am not interested in that scenario.
Bottom line for me at this point is undecided if the card stays.

Newegg got a special deal from ECS on this item and has sold out.JVM wrote:But, why would they deactivate an 8800 GT? The card is certainly not outdated, and they do have other brands still available. So, why the ECS model?
Or:
This particular item sold poorly and now that they've gotten rid of the inventory via sale prices, they don't want to re-stock it.
Or:
ECS quit making this special model.
Or:
Any of several other market/production-driven reasons.
