Need TV to connect to laptop

I am looking to buy a large tv (at least 42") on which I can display stuff from a vga connection on a laptop. I have heard that the tv should have a PC mode that will display 1024 x 768, and aspect ratio correction ability.

What i gathered from googling it that almost any tv can be used, but I would need a vga -> hdmi or dvi cable, since most current tvs dont have vga input.
Is that correct?
Are there any reasonable tvs that have vga input that i can use?
