Accelero S2 fits 4770?

They make noise, too.

Accelero S2 fits 4770?

Post by Tzupy » Sat May 02, 2009 7:23 am

I'd like to know if the Accelero S2 (NOT S1, I already know it doesn't fit), would fit the new 4770 card. Thank you in advance.
Since the GPU socket is so much to the left, I fear even the S2 wouldn't properly fit without major tinkering, which I want to avoid.
Otherwise I believe I would have to cut about 1 cm off the left side of the S1 I already have to make it fit the 4770.

Accelero compatibility:

S1 and S2 are measure about the same in gpu to left side length.

Having had an S1 and an S2 I can tell you that the S2 will not help you in this circumstance, they have the same left hand overhang as sampo said. Trimming down the metal is the solution. I would use an S1 in preference on a card of this power.

Thanks for the replies. I feared this was the case, well... tough luck.
I'll wait then for a custom PCB 4770 with 1GB RAM and hope it will have the GPU moved to the right.

edh,
When you say it's better to use in S1, are you talking about passive cooling? I have an S2 and would like to get this card (and am willing to trim the S2). With a 120mm fan blowing (slowly and quietly, of course) on the S2, would that be sufficient cooling for the 4770?

IMO it would cool the 4770 GPU very well.
But I would chose a 4770 with *all* stock components, those having fewer VRM phases may be tricky.
