Some info on ATI 57xx series cards...

They make noise, too.

I had the same thought. Put some copper on them and they would have had less draw

On idle its almost silent. Default 35% fan about 1300rpm and you can hear it, barely, over other slow fans. On 20% and 900 rpm - perfect.
On load fan ramps up fast to keep temps under 70. At 50% starts to disturb even in headphones
Thats what I wrote initially. After that I spent a week looking for aftermarket cooler options, because stock cooler is not good enough. It can be heard in idle and its annoying under load or when power management doesn't work. Its good enough compared to some other stock turbines, but not good for SPCR.

Accelero L2 sounds like a good fit, but its all out of stock here :(

I wonder if 5750 will replace my 256mb 3850 for 1680x1050 gaming, and if it will downvolt as my 3850 does.
It seems the real 4770 replacement, without that gdd5 downclock issue.

I need to replace my sapphire 256mb 3850, too.
5750 seems a good solution, i'm waiting for the vaporx one, and a decent review about it

No, the gpu is too close to PCI bracket so S1 won't fit without heavy modding.
But go for 5850 instead. I would.

I did this mod, my S1 was a mess so I removed the pipe closests to the PCI bracket. Resuts are great, but it looks like shit :)

It wasn't enough to just cut the blades as close to the heatsink as possible? It seems like the placement is retty similar to the 4770, and on that its enough to just cut the fins, and not the pipe.

big difference betweeen 4770 is the double slot dvi shroud. seems as tho s1 pipe would hit it that why he had to cut it off :(
thanks for the pic btw i dont know whether i will go for the scrap metal look

Ugh!

On a brighter note, Accelero L2 fit perfectly and works great. 8)

Does anyone know if 5770 use a 4 pin(pwr) fan contact? or a 3 pin?

How low rpm can you run the fan on before it gets very hot?

5770 has 4-pin PWM header and so does L2
It defaults to 35%, roughly 1300rpm
The most I 've seen it spin up was 41% at 55C. At load with overclock. Not obtrusive at all, easily quieter than stock cooling at idle.

Didn't try to limit it yet. But far spaced fins tell me it should work with slowed down fan as well.

At 20% its at ~1100 rpm

That is quite possibly the most ghetto looking mod I have ever seen; I love it.

It really is a thing of beauty, you've done just about every mod I can think of. You have the "J" bend, you clipped the fins and even a pipe. To top it off, you cut up a $20 fan and zip-tied it to the heat-sink!

It is just pure awesomeness I tell you, pure awesomeness.

Oh, and I was eager to use included VRM radiators, but found out that even after hours of gaming VRM chips get barely warm. There is some airflow over them from L2 in my case
So I skipped those. Memory radiators on other hand get quite hot

I as well, applaud the most ghetto mod I have seen in years.

It is breathtaking.

What torture. It looks very post-apocalyptic.

I bet you have an eye patch and do not get to shower often.

rock on

TNX, best VGA cooler Ive ever had :)

Its a noctua with the U.L.N.A adapter, ill guess its arround 600rpm. max temp is 60 celsius. but really think i dont need the fan, the card is very cool, I figure its less than 100W.

Power draw is 168W, during 3dmark and 100% cpu load. @ 83% psu efficiancy, the system uses 140W

bought one of the 5770, nothing wrong with reference cooler imo. nice and quiet at idle. louder on load obviously but not loud enough to distract me from gaming. possible to control voltage on these reference cards too. nice efficient card with excellent gaming power, perfect for me

TSMC still dealing with low 40nm yields..expect them to improve in q1 2010...which means low availability and high prices until q2 2010 for us.
