Fanless 5750 announced
New fanless 5750 from Powercolor. "The PowerColor SCS3 HD5750 will be available on Nov. 20th and will retail at US$149"
Looks like an Arctic Cooling S1. Low idle power, good performance and HDMI audio capabilitites makes for a great HTPC card.

I've been on the lookout for a card like this to replace my passive 7600GS, but under stress this baby still draws around 85W, while my oldie only asks around 35-40W under full load. But performance wise it's no match, that's a fact
I'm still waiting for the release of the value series of this generation AMD (HD 5650??) and make a decission between those 2.

According to xbit lab, power consumption is 11W idle, 44W load:Freeco wrote:I've been on the lookout for a card like this to replace my passive 7600GS, but under stress this baby still draws around 85W, while my oldie only asks around 35-40W under full load. Not bad, isn't it?
What do you think the possibility of this card running in a completely passive environment will be? (as of the end of the month the only moving part will hopefully be in a bottom mounted Seasonic X-650).
Replaced my 4850 because it struggled to run under 100 degrees in 2D mode on hot days (in a completely passive environment), and absolutely failed in 3D mode.
Currently using a 4550 but I need a bit more power than it gives.

You know, I have a phantom 350 Antec psu. Now, I have tried to see what a fully passive setup would be like using this psu. I can say that passive components require case flow.40974111 wrote:What do you think the possibility of this card running in a completely passive environment will be? Strangely, they also require the case to be closed. If i keep all of the components open to the air unrestricted, the components get quite warm. Apparently, the passive components need to be a part of the flow of air or pressure of air in order to operate as intended.
I do not think any system over like 60 watts or so total load could be done truly passive
mmm, indeed! I don't know where I get that 85W spec. Maybe I'm confusing with another model/review I read earlier._MarcoM_ wrote:According to xbit lab, power consumption is 11W idle, 44W load:

But as I don't need that much 3D power, I'm still curious for the value line
Nice timing of my 7600GS actually: I've done some testing why my system locks up after a couple of seconds 3D, and it seems there's some hardware damage to my 'old' card. Even holding a 120mm fan close to the heatsink doesn't help, while swapping to an even older X300 gives no problem at all.
Seems buying a HD5750 has become more real than I thought But for the moment the choice is still too limited: only 1 vendor with a passive model. I can still wait a bit more for other vendors to lauch some other variations. I don't need 1GB of RAM for example... 512MB will do fine.
If someone comes across a new one, do post the link

Will this fit in a Solo
Anyone know if this will fit in a SOLO, EVGA P55 FTW MOBO with no other cards?
Same question for the sapphire vapor-x 5750.
Thanks.

if you dont need the 1gb of ram, you dont need the 5750. You should just buy a 4770 and save 70 dollars. The ram is 100% used and is only 10 dollars more.Freeco wrote:Nice timing of my 7600GS actually: I've done some testing why my system locks up after a couple of seconds 3D, and it seems there's some hardware damage to my 'old' card. Let's not get too much off-topic on this choice of videocard of mine
I want one from the HD57xx (or future HD56xx) series because of the low power consumption idle & load. Or if nVidia launches something similar in the near future that 'll be worth another investigation.
I know the HD4xxx series are cheaper, but they also draw more power. I'm woried my 380W PSU won't suffice when the GPU goes to full load.

I was waiting for a vaporx version of the 5770.
To me, this one makes the most sense. the 5750 already is lower wattage than almost anything ever made for gaming.
It seems that ATI controls the other companies with an iron grip. No one would really want to make 1-2 months worth of reference cards unless forced to. If the 5770 was made vaporx, people would have the ability to meet 5850 speeds without the extra 120 dollars spent.
They keep picking the top and lowest ends to make custom. It's obvious, controlling and irritating. I wouldnt call all of this a paper launch, I just bought a xfx 5770 yesterday at Microcenter, a regular computer store.

Looks nice and at basically $0 premium over the fanned model it's a good value for me.boost wrote:New fanless 5750 from Powercolor. "The PowerColor SCS3 HD5750 will be available on Nov. 20th and will retail at US$149"

not enough horsepower, unfortunately.boost wrote:New fanless 5750 from Powercolor. "The PowerColor SCS3 HD5750 will be available on Nov. 20th and will retail at US$149"
i paid the same $149(after rebate) for a gtx 260 last summer, and it does 4 fps more in warhead, according to that xbit link that was posted... albeit at the expense of more noise and more heat, tho :-/
5870!!

PowerColor Go! Green HD5750
PowerColor Go! Green HD5750 = http://www.powercolor.com/Global/NewsInfo.asp?id=929
New lower power fanless 5750.
I haven't found a price yet but this looks like it might be the absolute sweet spot for silent gaming.
home theater users will want to save power and get the new 5670 instead but the gaming numbers don't favor the 5670 on demanding titles. http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=3720
