Still looking for quiet vga solution
Heej,
At the moment I have tested some VGA's from the store and non was silent enough for my use. Once Ive tested: asus 5850, Sapphire 5770, asus gtx 275 all standard coolers was to loud.
The use of the card: casual gaming, hd moviez etc (p0rn?!:p)
I am thinking about either the vapor-x 5750 or a 4890 with accelero but I have doubts on this one.. never used an aftermarket cooling as I am unsure if it will cool enough and if the VRM's will be cooled enough if I slap a 700rpm fan on it so thats why I thought about the 5750 because I dont wanna fuck up a priced card like 4890 (the error to fuck up the card seems large?)
Any suggestions is welcome, remember I want to try keep the noise levels not much higher as my current setup is now: the highest noise atm is my sflex E 1200Rpm at 7V on my CPU cooler.

Sounds like the 5750 is the better choice given your apps and preference for a retail solution. Much lower power than the 4890, lower priced, and the Vapor-X has decent reviews. Powercolor has a passive 5750 as well, however, some of their cards tend to run at higher idle power than other mfgrs solutions. Plus, you may still need to add some air flow over it to keep temps reasonable.
I'm in a similar boat.
You say the Sapphire 5770 was too loud? Was that with the original cooler or the updated one?

I'm also considering a Powercolor 5750 Passive 1GB and strapping on a Scythe slip stream 800.

The best term is indeed QUIET in any system with fans. Then it's just a matter of whether this new component is at least as QUIET as the existing fans.
Sapphire 5750 Vapor-X is quiet enough for me. Fan generally runs at 40% and is only a little louder than chassis fan. See thread here:

Review covering acoustics (although not to SPCR standards)

It was the updated version those reviews are tottaly wrong
I also tested a 5750 from asus that one was alot more quiet then the 5770. I couldnt hear it with case closed above my antec CP-850.
The 5850 I tested aswell the cooler is so shit it shouldnt be sold like that, makes weird buzzing noise and high pitch sound that is very annoying at night.
I will test the vapor-x 5750 tomorrow I really hope its quiet:)
Trueg, I think the best option is to get a 5750 vapor-x (besides aftermarket cooling imo) because when I tested the 5750 with standard cooling it was really quiet already but it had a weird buzzing noise also (shitty standard coolers )
Vincentfox it depends how loud your chassis fan is running?

I'm thinking of going with the Powercolor 5750 SCS3 (passive cooling) and strapping on a silent fan.
You could also try one of the cards that use the Accelero L2 Pro..
