Gpu Temp On/Off Fan?

Post by readk » Thu Jan 21, 2010 12:40 pm

It is possible to have a case fan that comes on when my GPU temp hits a certain temperature but goes (completely) off when it goes below it? I'd want to set the temp myself. Any ideas?

Use a fan with a thermal sensor. There are a few fan makers that offer these... but I can't vouch for how quiet the fan actually is.

I prefer a fan whose speed never changes, which makes it "disappear" into the background, even if it not the absolute quietest. As long as it's quiet & smooth enough and keeps the components cool enough under the worse conditions, steady speed is the fan for me.

I have a system that actually doesn't need a fan unless I'm doing extremely taxing 3D stuff and then it spikes like crazy. Makes the most sense if the fan just comes on when it hits an 'alarm' temp. Any suggestions of a fan I can get on newegg or something?

Try this Gelid:

Has a thermal sensor on a long wire that you could position somewhere on the video card heatsink.

Might work, will it turn off below a settable temp? I want it to only come on at like 75+ degrees otherwise be off.

Is there any software for on/off by desired temperature sensor?
Best program would:
1. read motherboard info to know all the pins and all the sensors
2. set any fan to on/off with any temperature in any sensor
3. give full voltage to start the fan, then reduce voltage to minimum spinning level
4. have desired limits for min/max voltage at min/max temperature for any fan by any sensor

SpeedFan has a lot of good, but not the on/off and not my MB either (ix38 quadGT)

Speedfan can do it, if your video card is nvidia and the MB has an adjustable fan connector (probably chafan1)
Connecting the chassis fan to the videocard is also an option...

SpeedFan doesn't support ix38 quadGT... program FREEZES after reading the MB. Any other options? (with on/off switch)
