Best Ati 5770 Air cooler?
Trying to decide. I might have to dismantle my water system as it wont move with me easily and to a fancy, pricey, NYCity craphole apartment.
taking a poll!

yeah. bending a heatpipe im a bit nervous about. I would hate to kink it and make it useless. I haven't seen or read a clear explanation about it. I am guessing it probably is the best way to go as it allows for lots of space between fins. I guess.... the others might be just as well. I do like the idea of the 2 Arctic cooling fans stuck on. They would cool the mosfets, the things that make the whole card use less wattage and run cooler. In my opinion, they are more important than the cpu being a few degrees higher.

Scythe Setsugen? It will fit, but you need to have a card which doesnt have stacked backpanel connectors. Thats the man reason why so much coolers dont fit.~El~Jefe~ wrote:setsugen?
hm. lots of good comments THis is my first air system in many years so I really have no experience with air since my ati 9800 all in wonder pro
I dont think that setsugen fits 5770. sucks right?

See those DVI connectors? They are on top of eachother. I mean that with stacked backpanel connectors.

Wouldnt try it. Just get another card which has no stacked connectors. asus CuCore, PowerColor has one. MSI Hawk is also good for aftermarket coolers.~El~Jefe~ wrote:OHhhhh.. ok. Hey, I was wondering if I could cut them off. I never will use more than one display. hm. Lil snip snip makes the day grow shorter?
Ahhh... I was thiking it was something on the backside of the card that interfered with the backplate installation, not the actual outputs.
None of the reference cards will take an aftermarket cooler very well, the socket is too close to the rear of the case. It does look as though many of the non-reference design cards will do just dandy with one. Look for cards where the center of the chip/socket is at least 2/3 back on the PCIe pins:

Some of these already have excellent coolers, the MSI Hawk comes to mind, first in the list. I listed it to as an example of board design.

If you are going for cooling-performance and are unwilling to cut in a Accelero S1, HR03 is the way to go. It performs poorly without a fan but excellent with a slow running fan and this makes it really easy for you to decide how much noise you are willing to endure by choosing a proper fan.
The L2 is no performance-cooler and comes with a included fan, Arctic Cooling's fans aren't that great, you can definitively get a much quieter one from Nexus or Scythe.

I agree with everything but the BOLD statement. AC fans ARE great. I have a few. both 92 and 120.bozar wrote:If you are going for cooling-performance and are unwilling to cut in a Accelero S1, HR03 is the way to go. Their hydrodynamic bearing is quiet and they work for years without getting louder. they Undervolt very low and easy. I have 1 in my main system right next to a Slipsteam and the AC is quieter

I have a Sapphire 5770 with TR HR-03 revA in 'reverse' installation so my CPU fan on the Ninja RevB can provide some airflow. No modification was necessary and installation was a piece of cake.
With the CPU fan going at 300rpm, the card stays at 36C, then under Furmark burning load, the fan speed increases to 950rpm and the card maxes out at 58C.

wow. that's a lot of performance from that cooler. that is how I will roll I think.rocketJeff wrote:I have a Sapphire 5770 with TR HR-03 revA in 'reverse' installation so my CPU fan on the Ninja RevB can provide some airflow. No modification was necessary and installation was a piece of cake.
