120mm fan in 3 x 5.25 bay mounting.

Post by Copyright » Tue Apr 27, 2010 6:09 pm

So I have a Lian Li case with vented 5/25" slot covers and dual fans behind 6 of them. I used the method of zip ties to suspend the fans behind the slot covers. Now I am looking for a better mounting method. Best way I can describe what I am looking for is a Kama Bay but without the mesh front. I need to have the fans directly behind the stock bay covers. Does anything like this exist? Not looking forward to building custom brackets.

So imagine something like this minus the drive cage crap behind it.

Lian Li have a range of what they call HDD Expansion Kits, as here http://www.lian-li.com.tw/v2/en/product ... s_index=12. I bought a Lian Li EX33 in black, and it is a very nice thing. You could consider this http://www.frozencpu.com/products/10876 ... 332NX.html or this http://www.frozencpu.com/products/10880 ... -33X2.html.

yeah, thing is I dont need any drive holders.. just the bracket for the fan. That's a hefty price. Guess ill stick with my ghetto zip ties.

What are you trying to gain over zip ties? Zip ties should hold it very secure, and can be done fairly neatly (not that it would be very visible anyway).

I don't think I have seen anything like what you want (I've just used zip ties in the past, although 140mm fans fit very tightly anyway), but I am sure you could remove the drive bays off the expansion kit that lodestar linked... but it would be expensive.

Exactly, BZ-502 is the ideal product if all you need is fan.

I put one of these into a Lian Li PC- 07+ just a few days ago. It looks good, only problem was that it was slightly too small (for this particular case anyway) and I had to use small washers as spacers between it and the sides of the bays. Had to use metal washers but it might be better with rubber or neoprene ones. The supplied fan starts quite happily at 5v and is virtually inaudible at around 550rpm. It also comes with a filter.
The temperature of the suspended drive has dropped from 38c - 40c down to 28c- 30c.

I have the fans I just need the bracket to hold them.. Guess its back to zip ties again. That piece you linked has a grill in front which is what I kept saying I don't need.

Edit: In the UK the equivalent is the Sharkoon Rebel 12 Fan Frame (5.25" Front Bay Frame mounting to hold a 140mm or 120mm fan) available for example from here http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebP ... ce=froogle.
