Larger Fans?

Post by QuietPlease » Sat Jul 10, 2010 10:13 pm

I was just wanting to ask if SPCR was ever going to have a section reviewing larger fans than 120mm ones. I was wondering what the quietest 140, 200 even 230 mm fan was. It has been hard for me to find any information about the acoustics of fans of this size. Does scythe make any larger fans with their awesome bearing technology?

This is part of the problem with fans larger than 120mm... there isn't a lot of choice (140mm fan choice is growing, which is great, but above that its all very limited).

140mm fan round up would be great, but probably a bit premature.

Yeah 140 is a possibility I'm sure. Larger than that all tend to be some degree of crap. All you can do is undervolt them below original spec and hope there's not so much motor/bearing residual noise.

Yeah totally.

A 140mm fan round up would be great. I like them a LOT more than 120's. I have a stock 140mm from scythe, came with Grand Kama Cross. lower it like 20% from max and it's smooth and quiet while pushing a very decent amount of air over the whole board.

that new thermalright 140mm fan is worth looking at.

i don't have another 140mm fan to compare it do, but it was quieter than i expected.

The Mini P180 review has some insights on the BigBoy 200mm fan. Its effective frame size is 200x230mm, so it should be equivalent in size to some Coolermaster's stock fans and should be a suitable and quieter replacement.
As for 140mm fans, I too vote for a round-up.
