Mounting a fan in 5 25 slots

Post by Anatorax » Sun Jan 09, 2011 1:32 pm

Hi guys!

I have this case ( http://www.ingame.de/files/2010/10/rs-9 ... or-hdd.jpg ) and think it would be nice to fit another fan at the front. The problem is that I am not entirely sure how to do it. Of course, there are HDD cages like http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6817996019 , but I don't really need that HDD cage and that fan (I want to some Scythe fan in there). I just need something to hold the damn fan in place and be able to attach a filter to it (the screw holes must be used). Any ideas?

I thought of contacting the manufacturer and getting the red thing it hangs on, but I don't think I will get any response and I don't like that unnecessary grill too.

Well, it could work, but in Germany it is even more expensive than that Xigmatek thing. Anything else?

How about suspending a 140mm to 120mm fan adapter to screw the fan and filter onto?

I thought about it too. If I don't find any adapter, that's what I will do. Mb, I will even ditch the standard adapter and put two 140mm fans. Just need to think of a good way to suspend or fix them.

Well that pic shows plenty of holes you can tie elastic onto. Just remove the drive cage and put the hard drive(s) in the middle 5.25 bay.

Or you could put the hard drive cage on the floor of the case and have the lower fan blow through them.

(And what's the device in the top bay?)

The device in the top bay is part of the case - it has the power and reset buttons and integrated fan controller for 4 fans. The case is a cheap Aerocool RS9 Red Devil edition.

I will suspend the fans. But now I think about moving the fans to the back of the 5.25 bays and suspending them there, so that they are as close as possible to the motherboard. They will still suck in cold air from the front of the case and will blow directly on the VGA and CPU.

Btw, I found the thing I need, but it is an American website http://www.mountainmods.com/mountain-mo ... p-405.html .

Sharkoon make a couple of these devices, one to hold a 120mm fan and the other a 120/140mm fan. They are called the Sharkoon Rebel 9 Fan Frame, and the Sharkoon Rebel 12 Frame.

I have not seen the first one, but I have seen the the second one. It is made of metal, but you could soft mount a fan to it.

I can buy both in the UK. There are sources for them in Germany such as http://www.vibuonline.de/product_info.p ... Frame.html.

Whoa... The grill on the big one is crap, but I like the smaller one for 120mm fans. I think it may fit perfectly. Thank you very much!

P.S. Have found a similar older topic... Should have searched for it before creating a topic.
