Need feedback from Samsung F3 (HD103SJ) owners
Hey all,
I've read about the F3's humming noise but only scattered comments. I'd like to have more information so I need your feedback, especially from users who have their HDDs suspended (if that helps with the noise).
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I don't have any problem with these HDDs. Apart from using them on
many builds, I recently got one for my own rig to replace a humming WD AAKS with great success. I use it in the P-150's tray in an acoustically contolled room and I have no problems with hum.
It is my experience that hum has a lot to do with case build quality and transmition of HD vibration to the case. From what I've seen suspention of the drive works to eliminate it.

I have two of these drives in my system and cannot report any humming noises. So far they seem like a solid drive.
Re: Need feedback from Samsung F3 (HD103SJ) owners
It's all about vibrations and how many cases amplify them. With good enough dampening or suspension the effect does not present itself.

But according to your sig you're using a Samsung F1, not an F3.ame wrote:Hi,

That sig needs to be uprayed. I now have both F1 and the F3 103 SJ in trays. SSD is hard mounted in a 5.25 bay. As I mentioned the 103 SJ is the default goto HDD I use on many builds and I consider it to be as quiet as HDDs get. Even when hard mounted in a Three Hundred like I do on budget builds it's not particularly noticeable, though in a silent rig I'd expect you to use the Solo's silicon tray or suspend it.
I think WD black/blue 7200RPM drives are somewhat louder.

I have a spinpoint F3 and a seagate barracuda.
I can't really tell which one makes a buzzing sound, but it's definitely one of them.

Hi, I have a F3 1TB in my PC as the only drive. Previously I had a F1 1TB but it proved to be unreliable and I didn't use the warranty replacement either as took while. The F3 might be very slightly louder than the F3 but I'm happy with mine.
*BUT* I have it in a Scythe Quiet Drive and sitting on foam, so it's enclosed and decoupled. The SQD is good for 2~4dB(A) reduction according to SPCR. In this state it's very quiet, quieter than the 1.5TB WD green in external case next to it.

I don't need opinions any more since I bought a WD10EALX (tip: stay away from it) but I guess people can still contribute for the benefit of other users.

No, the X model (6Gbps) simply does not support AAM. My 640GB Blue is perfectly quiet.ame wrote:Thats too badrpsgc wrote:I don't need opinions any more since I bought a WD10EALX (tip: stay away from it)......
